Little Ruckomechi opened in Sept 2016. This camp is a KEEPER in fact it is a hidden GEM!

Wilderness Safari’s Private Ruckomechi Concession ensures an exclusive safari experience amidst one of the great wildlife areas of southern Africa. This NEW camp is small and intimate, with only 3 guest tents and a fourth tent for a private guide. Making this a special camp.

Rooms are built on wooden decks. The stunning en-suite tents are airy and elegant; a reminder of the by-gone explorer era. These tents are luxurious open sided tents (screened in on all 3 sides). Each room has sweeping views of the Zambezi river and its riverbank and the escarpment. The bathroom is behind the large king bed and has double copper sinks and a separate loo area (with an actual door for privacy). The shower is large with copper fixtures and has a screen wall offering views to the outside.
There is a desk and chair behind the bed and a large armoire style closet area with a small safe for storing valuable items. There is also a small changing area. The décor is perfect all organic materials with a ceiling of “sticks/twigs”. I loved this tent! Each room has a small deck/patio with 2 chairs to enjoy sitting outside watching the animals. You can lie on your king bed and have unobstructed views of the Zambezi. Rooms also have their own charging station so no leaving camera batteries in main camp to charge.

The common areas of camp include a dining room/bar area under an open sided meru style tent, although we enjoyed our brunch and dinner under the trees and stars on the grounds of the camp (sometimes with the ellies trying to participate in our brunch). There is also a similar style lounge area with the open sided meru tent design. Again the style/décor is organic, comfortable and elegant and fits in tastefully with its surroundings. The common areas like the tent are located beneath the albida trees offering refreshing shade on the hot African afternoons, and positioned in such a way as to take advantage of the winds along the Zambezi River.

Of course no WS camp is complete without its “loo with a view” in the main area.
The elephants are everywhere in camp and just a joy to have right at your footsteps (always look both ways when you exit your tent or the main areas so you don't accidentally walk into one). The floodplains below are abundant with waterbuck, zebra, kudu and impala offering some great “bush tv” during siesta times.

There is a small plunge pool on an elevated deck with a few lounge chaises to relax and refresh the soul on those hot African afternoons. We were entertained with constant visitors at the pool area, it seems the ellies just love the pathway next to it.

Like its larger sister camp Little Rucko offers a wide range of activities: boating, canoeing (in good weather conditions), walking safaris and game drive safaris.

Food: Excellent as are all the WS camps. The chef was outstanding here making us omelets and pancakes under the iconic albida trees. As elephants walked around camp sometimes coming nearly up to the dining area in the bush! Awesome experience!

Honest is not only a great guide, but an excellent manager, he did his best to make sure his guests had the experience they hoped for. Like Big Rucko the staff is incredible, everyone is accommodating and want the guests to have the time of their lives. The camp would not be the same without an excellent staff to make it that way.

This camp is one of 2 located within the private Wilderness concession in Mana Pools National Park. This area is PRIME game viewing. We were fortunate to see lions (every time we are in this area we see them) with a fresh batch of cubs, 2 cheetah hanging around the area close by the airstrip, lots of ellies, hippo, kudu, buffalo, and the list goes on and on... and we saw the wild dogs (albeit a smaller pack than in the past we only saw 6 adults here), this is a great area for sightings!

We loved this new camp. It is small and intimate and it is now our favorite camp in Mana Pools! They built this camp just right! We cannot wait to come back!!!! Thank you all, we look forward to returning!

Room Tip: Tent 3 for couples offers greatest privacy and great views!
