“Awesome!”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

We thought being at na' ankuse in Namibia was the most awesome thing we had ever done - but watching the sun rise and set from a boat from Bumi Hills on Lake Kariba whilst watching the animals, or fishing was mind blowing
Congratulations to Nick and the whole team for excellent rooms, service, food and the guides for their professionalism and their smiles. Watch out for the dog - she makes the place feel like home.

We arrived at Bumi not knowing quite what to expect and were completely blown away by the place. Nick, the General Manager and all his staff without exception worked extremely hard to make our holiday extremely relaxing. The premier rooms look straight onto the Lake where the elephants wander backwards and forwards; the lodge was wonderfully quiet and the Ranger (Madison) was excellent - especially enjoyed his gin and tonics on the evening sunset cruise!!
Jackie R

Room Tip: If you can choose one of the premier rooms, although all rooms do look over the Lake.

Friendly Staff - Informative Guide - Tidy Rooms and Great Food.
Where else can you drive to a lake shore and view Elephant, Croc, Hippo, Buffalo and various bird species, followed with a sun downer beside the shores of Lake Kariba.

Room Tip: Lake view rooms have a great view with balcony attached but you have to negotiate stairs.

Bumi hills was a complete surprise to us as we had know idea what to expect. The peacefulness of the place really surprised us and had we lived nearer it would be a regular de-stress destination for us. The cleanliness was excellent, and the fresh milk in the room everyday really was a welcome touch to us Brits who love our tea in the morning. The decor was modern and current, the room was spacious and the bed huge and very comfortable, we slept well at Bumi. The daily activities were nicely timed so as not to over do it and become stressful, drinks and snacks on the trips were also a lovely touch. Food was excellent and was over and above our expectations. Spa option was a great treat that was easily fitted into the day without becoming a disturbance to other activities. Staff very friendly indeed and front of house staff were excellent, welcoming and visible, which in a remote spot as Bumi made for a relaxed and informative point of contact without being formal which added to the welcoming feel.

Room Tip: The premium rooms had a better view and slightly more private but all rooms were excellent.

Flew in from Harare for 20th anniversary stay to see what Bumki Hills had turned into from days of yore. A beautiful place now, renovations and additions just great, the infinity pool tops off the view from well appoimted lounge area. Staff very friendly, meals were superb, game drives and fishing really good, excellent spa treatments!.

Room Tip: Premier suits overlook lake and less pricey but great rooms further back, little smaller etc

The lodge provided a good variety of experiences for our 2 night stay, which was too short to enjoy all its offerings. The spacious north-facing chalets perched on the slope overlooking the Lake provided lovely personal space, while the lounges and pool areas beckoned for relaxing time with friends. The staff were lovely, and provided good service and tasty meals. The spa was a real treat for me as I had been suffering from traveller back stress and I enjoyed the massage and pedicure very much. As for the wild-life viewing I was amazed by the variety of creatures that shared the lake edge in the late afternoon - fascinating. I enjoyed our fishing trip even though we came home empty handed - the fish were certainly biting. The visit to the local village of Chilala was most enlightening and I enjoyed learning about the capenta fishing industry. It was nice to be able to keep an eye on our aircraft conveniently parked on the airfield below the lodge as we passed by during our daily outings. A great venue to add to any Flying Safari Adventure.

Room Tip: Ask for a premium room which has its own balcony and uninterupted private lake view

We drove to Kariba from Harare and took the boat transfer.

Our two night, three day trip could not have been better. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The premises were clean and showed signs of recent refurbishment.

The food was surprisingly good, and all thoughts of weight control were abandoned within 2 hours of arrival. i say surprising because there are logistical challenges to obtaining fresh ingredients in this remote spot.

Our party comprised both Zimbabwean residents and visitors from the USA and ranged from pre-teens to a grandmother. We all felt the same way about Bumi: fantastic. The opening ceremony of the UK Olympics was screened live on satellite television (DSTV) for those who wanted to watch.

Our fishing, game viewing and village tours were conducted by knowledgeable, competent guides.

One has not lived until one has seen a Kariba sunset, and there is no better location to watch it from than the deck at Bumi hills Safari Lodge.

Do yourself a favour and do it soon!
