My wife and I visited Elephants Eye in late February 2014 and had a thoroughly memorable experience.

We have done safaris in South African and Kenya and had wanted to visit the Victoria Falls and do a safari in Zimbabwe.

The chalets are comfortable and luxurious; we really liked the outdoor shower!
We were the only couple in camp for the 5 days we were there - this was due to it being the wet season and animals scarce but this timing provides its own wonders. Shepherd and Vivienne were excellent, as was everyone; all eager to please.
Every meal time saw the Staff move our table to a new location - a very nice touch, obviously not necessary and I assume they did it because we were the only ones there but shows a great desire to please and impress.
Our timing was very much wet season; very big thundershowers overnight (I miss those here in the UK!).
The park looked and smelled beautiful thanks to the rains though and while animals were less in number and harder to find, it made it fun to spot them and I think Shepherd was impressed with our spotting skills.
Only one day yielded no elephant sighting on the drives. That evening however, the Staff went above and beyond with Katrien's birthday celebrations. They placed our table on the viewing deck, gave us sparkling wine, Chef made a wonderful cake (his dishes were always good) and amazingly, 4 elephants walked into camp!
We did one all-day drive and it was great. We did morning and afternoon drives on every other day as we really enjoy that. Being out there transported us away from urban UK to a beautiful country that allowed us to put away our comms devices and take in the landscape flora and fauna. Zim has a lot to offer the safari/Nature holiday tourist.
On the final drive of the trip, we spotted a giraffe that was ignoring our car and seemed fixated on something in the road. It was a large male lion - and we had written off seeing cats! We sat with him for 30 minutes and then headed home only to come across 9 more!

In summary, The Elephants Eye is truly wonderful and a great experience. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Chalet 1 if you want to be close to the main buildings, Chalet 7 for the best views. We liked 7 beca...

Dear Stu911, Thanks so much for your detailed feedback on your 5 nights with us. Yes Green Season is not as busy as the dry season but as you experienced one can still see some amazing wildlife with the added bonus of it not being busy and the birdlife is exceptional this time of year. We hope to welcome you back to the lodge again soon. Thanks Garth

We stayed at this fantastic place three nights. Our charlet was excellent, the view great and the straff helpful and complied all our wishes. Food was excellent. Have you ever taken a shower overlooking the savanna with anamals and birds? At Elephant's Eye you can do that. We loved our stay.

I had a wonderful two nights at Elephants Eye and had a superb experience. The team there are first class and provide a great break away from the hustle of city life.
The food was superb and the view whilst eating made each meal a real delight.
I also loved the fact that the pool was of a good size for a lodge in the bush.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there and will return in the future.

We were fortuante enough to spend one night at Elephants Eye and loved it. The staff were all OUTSTANDING and very professional. The food was excellent and exceeded our expectations, our complements go to the Chef and his staff. Travelling to Hwange in the greenseason was a pleasant surprise with good game viewing all beit a bit short with our limited time at the lodge. The rooms are very comfortable and well thought out - liked the universal plugs which were useful. A couch/chair in the room would be a nice addition. The Spa will be a great feature and well worth using once its up and running - the Hide and look out platforms will be welcome additions around the fantastic nearby waterhole. Thanks once again African Luxury Hideaways for hosting us at your awsome lodge.
warm regards and best wishes for the season ahead

Hi Blue Bear, Great to get such positive feedback from your stay. Yes we are planning a couch in the rooms and the spa will be opening in April. One night was too short :) come back next time and stay for at least three nights. Thanks again. Garth

Thank you to Blessed and the team at Elephants Eye, from the time we arrived til we left were made to feel special guests. Most of the key staff have been working in the region for the past few years and have come back to Zimbabwe enthused and inline with international tourism expectation of standards in lodges. The food was scrumptious and well presented. Game drives were of a high standard. The spa is being built, but will be wonderful when done.
Few suggestions were to put a trickling water feature at the spa and in the rooms to add an extension mirror for shorter (older folk).
Like the universal plugs, good lighting, comfortable beds, sheeting and pillows.
Well done for a stunning lodge!

Room Tip: Rooms are on platforms, so not ideal for those who have trouble climbing stairs, however, knowing th...

Hi Seasons, Thanks for the positive review on Elephant's Eye. Yes the spa will be opening in April and I will look into your idea of a water feature - not a bad idea at all. You're correct about returning Zimbabweans. We have hired a lot of Zimbabweans who have been living in South Africa and have wanted to return to Zimbabwe now that things have started to improve in the country again. We have experienced a 25% increase in tourism every year for the last few years so now is the time to return before the crowds arrive. Thanks again. Garth

I visited Elephants Eye Lodge in January 2014. My experience on arrival was mirrored by my group of travelers of joy and excitement. The friendly staff that welcomed us with cool drinks was a perfect start to a stay that just got better. The rooms a unique blend of bush - thatch roof, canvas walls and modern edge was luxurious and spacious with stunning views. The food was outstanding, especially the camembert started, grilled bream and a traditional favourite Malva Pudding. The staff was friendly and welcoming. All of the staff around were eager to assist and share information where possible. You get the feeling they eagerly support each other and with big smiles at that. The animal highlight was seeing a large male leopard and on the night drive a large herd of elephant who moved around the vehicle back and front they were so close. The guides Shepherd and Dollar was so informative and knowledgeable on all animal types large and small. They along with the manager Blessed are excellent story tellers who entertained us and gave us an insightful picture of life in the african bush. I would rate this Lodge 5 star in all areas.

Room Tip: Room 7 and 8 have the best waterhole views.

Hi Sue, Thanks so much for the excellent review. It's makes all of us at African Luxury Hideaways so proud of our staff and Elephant's Eye. Staff make a lodge and we seem to have an incredible team at the lodge. Everyone who has come to stay at the lodge rave about our staff from cleaning, guiding and management. Yes and the game experience isn't too bad either. Seeing leopard so often is amazing along with our elephant herd that is now sitting at over 30 000 in Hwange. We hope to see you back at the lodge soon. Keep well Garth

We visited Elephants Eye in February 2014. The drive from Kasane Airport was long and hot but the arrival at the lodge made up for this. Greeted by all staff and cold refreshing face cloths we were soon introduced to the facilities by "Dollar". A cold beer and a superb meal were just an introduction to the superb accommodation. We slept well and an early morning hot shower in the open, overlooking the water hole was a unique experience.
Game drives in Hwange National park were not quite as expected, as the exceptional rain fall and long grass made most animals invisible. However our two guides, Dollar and Shepard made up for quantity with the quality of their descriptions of the lives and habits of the animals and birds which we did see.
In all this is a very professionally run camp which will no doubt grow in popularity as time goes on.

Hi Babs, So nice to hear from you. Babs thanks for the complements about the lodge and especially our staff. I flew into Vic Falls last night and drove down to the lodge which always feels like home to me. Our guides are excellent and have been getting such great feedback from all our clients last year and this. As they said to me this morning they all feel like family. Yes this time of year the game spreads out with all the water around and most of our 30 000 elephants migrate to Botswana. Saying that we have about 10 Elies drinking from the pool last night. We hope to see you back soon. Thanks again. Garth
