From the moment we were picked up at the main gate, we knew we'd love Camp Hwange. The drive to camp from the gate with Beth was informative, with varied terrain and several animals to enjoy. The greeting from the staff on arrival was warm and informative, they made sure they had my dietary restrictions (vegetarian, with a few little quirks) correct and showed us to our room to settle in before lunch.

At lunch, we met our guide, Andy and enjoyed a variety of fresh, healthy foods. The game drives and walks we did over the coming days with Andy, Chunky and Washington were stellar. I knew we'd walk some, since we requested it, but I don't think I realized exactly how much, how varied, how informative and how fascinating the walks would be. We saw a huge variety of mammals, birds and foliage every single day. Did foot approaches to elephants, lion, leopard and walked with buffalo. Felt safe, and awe inspired.

We loved communal dinners chatting with the guides and staff and learning more about the camp, the concession, the park and the country. We did one full day drive/walk, which was amazing, we saw three leopard, countless elephants, giraffe, lions, birds, etc. - and the lunch they sent was unbelievable. In honor of my husband's birthday, and another couple's anniversary, they gave us a bush dinner on our last night. Again - amazing. From breakfast, to snacks, to tea time to dinner, every single meal was outstanding and the vegetarian options provided were great. My husband raved about the meat options, too.

The chalets were clean, comfortable and offered an amazing view of the watering hole with quite the soundtrack (buffalo, lions, etc) at night. Felt safe as a kitten inside.

I wish we had another day or two there, as my only complaint is more a compliment - the common areas and tent porch were so wonderful, I would've loved to have been there long enough to justify taking a drive "off" to enjoy the space and simply watch the light change over the water hole and see what showed up.

Thanks for a great vacation!

We had absolutely excellent game and bird viewing at Camp Hwange. Our guide, Washington, was one of the best we've had over several safari trips. A local man, he has come up through the ranks and is absolutely passionate about what he does. Ideally for us he was a mine of information about birds and keen on photography. Not yet 'Zim Pro' but he soon will be and we would always ask for him if we were to re-visit.

We were very appreciative that they set up a table on the small 'patio' in front of our room each evening and served our dinner there. Those doing the serving were delightful.

A few constructive comments - the 'back of house' was not as strong as the front. Our time of departure from the Victoria Falls Hotel was never confirmed and we spent too much of our all-too-short stay there running around during the evening and early morning trying to get the phone answered to find out. Comparing the housekeeping and laundry service with other equally remote camps, it left a lot to be desired. They have a known problem with dormice seeking food during the night. If we had been advised we could have avoided a luggage bag and a flight bag having holes eaten through them and the contents shredded. Ignoring the damage, I suppose it's quite amusing that when surrounded by wild and dangerous animals our only problem was with mice!

Had an amazing time at Camp Hwange. I stayed there for 5 days and if you are serious about going on Safari, this is the camp to visit. Morning drives typically go out from around 615AM – 11:30AM and the afternoon drives go from 4:30PM -7PM or even later. You can tell all the guides are very passionate and excited about being Safari Guides. They seem more excited to see animals than the guests. Our guide Julian has an incredible amount of knowledge about everything in the bush and he also has balls of steel. He got us to within 30 feet of bull elephants on walks and also to within 30 yards of lions feeding on a kill. We also did walks up to cape buffalo too. The Guides and the Staff at Camp Hwange really make for a truly special safari experience.

We can't say enough great things about our time at Camp Hwange - the experience of our wonderful guide (Andy), the delicious food, gracious staff , and of course the animals! A shoutout to Beth for literally letting me buy the fleece off her back. Only problem was staying only 3 nights - in retrospect we wished we had stayed longer

It was an absolutely unforgettable experience despite the fact that we only stayed for 2 days. Our guides, Julian and Washington, were both warm and welcoming. Extremely knowledgeable about the terrain in Hwange. You could see that they had a lot of passion about being bush guides and it shows in the manner with which they convey themselves. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

We got to see 3 lions at the watering hole situated approximately 100 yards from our chalet. It was so wonderful listening to the sounds of lion roars at night. Knowing that they were a few hundred meters away and doing what lions do best: asserting themselves as the kings of the bush. Nothing short of breathtaking!

The game drives were otherworldly. We had one night drive where we perched ourselves behind some large branches and watched dozens of bull elephants make their way down to a watering hole while a lone hippo watched. We had another game drive where we saw the elusive leopard. Our last game drive involved an older male lion (12-13 years old) who was presumed dead for over a year until Julian discovered that this lion took over a pride of 9 lionesses. Absolutely stunning when we came across this group of animals. Even more amazing to learn about the backstory of this lion and to see the look of amazement and wonder on an experienced bush guide!

The rest of the staff were equally amazing. We felt very welcomed there. The food was delicious. The service first rate. Our room and the camp grounds were absolutely stunning. Thank you for a memorable experience!
