“A brilliant safari experience”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

We had a brilliant experience here and were so well looked after by Julian, Ashley and their staff. Julian took us out on the early morning game drives and also took us walking so we had a totally different experience to just sitting in a vehicle. Tracking a bull elephant in a teak forest was an amazing experience - we got so close to him and he wasn't at all aware of us. Washington took us out for the late afternoon game drives and it was a magical experience sitting by a waterhole watching the antics of the hippos whilst sipping our sundowners. Both Julian and Washington were able to tell us so much about the animals and birds we saw.
The Camp itself is comfortable and the food was excellent - Ashley baked bread and cakes every day and we were served with a delicious lunch and dinner.

We had the greatest time with super staff ....most friendly and the standard top star...good sitings with A1 guides ..what more could a person want!@ we saw Camp Hwange being built and followed the progress and problems that they had ....to a great succesful Lodge l believe the best in Hwange ...congratulations to a great team. I was so grateful that it had rained alittle just before we arrived and during our stay in Hwange we had a good downfall of rain...we trust this year will be an outstanding year and cannot wait to see the team again during this year and all the game in front of the lodge at the water hole.

Our stay here was the most wonderful experience of our safari in Botswana & Zimbabwe. Jules and Ashley have got this camp running like clockwork. All our needs were catered for. Jules was a first class wildlife guide and gave us a fantastic insight into life as a wildlife guide in Zimbabwe and Ashley ensured that all our needs in the camp were catered for. All the other guides and staff there were excellent. It is most definitely a place you must visit if you go to Zimbabwe. That part of the country is nothing like what our press make it out to be

Room Tip: All the rooms look out over the waterhole so there is no difference where you stay

We could not have asked for anything more from Camp Hwange. Fantastic team both at the camp and during our game trips. Guides were the real deal, extremely knowledgeable and gave us a huge amount to see and learn. Accommodation was extremely comfortable, we could not have slept better. Would not hesitate recommending Camp Hwange to anyone- safari novices or experts. You don't go on safari for the food but what an added bonus that the food was absolutely delicious. No detail not thought out, from the blankets in the jeep to Tcgunka's biscuits before lunch. An unforgettable adventure. We will be back.

Enjoyed five brilliant days here in early December, out of the dry season. Still had good game viewing, thanks to our friendly, knowledgeable and very capable guide, Dharmish. An expert guide is the key to any good safari and we had a great one.The walking safaris in particular were wonderful - just a few metres away from five bull elephants at one point. Even in the wet season, there is plenty to do and see but without the crowds

The hospitality, thanks to Ruth and Ashley, is consistently first class and the food is exceptional - a French couple who stayed whilst we were there described it as 'incroyable', which tells you all you need to know about the quality. We turned up a day early (for reasons nothing to do with the camp) and the staff adapted to the unexpected change in itinerary without any problem, which is the hallmark of good service, given they only had 24 hours notice.

The accommodation is full of charm, character and is set in a stunning location.

Really, if you are considering a safari, don't miss out on Zimbabwe, it's dreadfully underrated, and if you visit Zim, definitely include Camp Hwange in your trip. I can't believe that anyone could fail to fall in love with it.

Room Tip: There are only 8 rooms - all are perfect

Julian helped us out of a sticky situation when we broke down in Hwange, he was extremely helpful and went out of his way to find a mechanic that could get us back on the road. Many thanks and if you treat your guests with the same compassion then Camp Hwange must be a fantastic place to stay.
