“Great location overlooking water hole”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

The Ganda lodge was the last of four places we stayed on a safari to Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. We were a family of 8 and were given 4 lodge cabins. Each one was huge with an upstairs and viewing balcony. The site was great with a constantly changing number of animals coming to the water hole in front of the lodge. You were able to sit on the chairs by the pool and watch the animals. The game drives were well done. My only complaint was that the Mel's were not of the same quality as some of the other lodges we stayed at. Despite that I would recommend this lodge for the location alone.

This was the last of 4 campsites on our African safari. What a disappointment! It was the only non tented site we stayed at and upon arrival it looked great. Once inside we could see that the accomodations had not been touched in many years. It was filthy in the bathrooms, ie the shower curtain was moldy, filthy and genuinely gross. The rest of the room was equally neglected. The rooms were bigger than others that we had been to, but that did not make up for terribly rundown conditions that existed. The staff was ok but not nearly as attentive as the prior camps.Hwange was the least exciting of the reserves we had visited( in Botswana and Zambia). Find something better in the area

Room Tip: dont go there unless and until they renovate. The public area had been renovated and it was fine

You stayed with us in June 2013, in Hwange National Park, and we would like to thank you for the feed back you gave us about the state of Ganda lodge.

The feedback has helped us a lot to improve on the quality of our product. Without such feed back as provided by yourself we could have not achieved our current achievements.

In the year 2015 we were voted the "Best Safari Operator in Zimbabwe" in the Megafest Tourism Awards. We were awarded the "First Runner Up" in the Best Tour Operator category by Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Once again we say thank you to the valuable feedback and it is our sincere hope in your next visit to Africa and Zimbabwe, you will pass by Ganda Lodge and have a feel of the "New Ganda" look.

Regards
Enock.

On our way to Victoria Falls me and my wife stopped over at Ganda Lodge in Hwange. We had heard that it was a great place to see animals, but we had no idea of the treat that was in store.

The lodge is located on the edge of Hwange National Park and amazingly next to a watering hole too. We arrived and were welcomed by friendly staff who showed us to our chalet. We were fortunate enough to get a ground floor chalet as it meant we avoided the task of climbing steps to get to our room. The down side however was that when the guests on the top chalet were quite active or vocal we could hear them. The room had twin beds which we joined together.

As we travelled in winter, the highlight for us the fire pit which was lit every evening. There we got to interact with other guests as we tried to spot animals grazing nearby in the grass. The meals were good and it was nice to have the chef welcome us to every meal and explain to us what he had cooked. Coffee and tea were available all throughout the day to combat the winter chill.

What amazed us about Ganda Lodge was the wildlife that frequents the watering hole. Other guests went on game drives but we saw just as many animals sitting on our verandah. We awoke to waterbuck, impala and warthogs grazing in the grass by the waterhole. We had lunch admiring a herd of over 70 elephants taking a midday drink. And we had afternoon tea discussing the difference between male and female giraffes. Without a doubt we were treated to a game viewing feast. The lodge staff were also happy to share their knowledge about animals. Apart from the animals, on our last night we were entertained by a local dance group. It was quite interactive and fun.

Overall, I would say Ganda Lodge is worth a visit.

Wow - what a great location, overlooking the water whole with countless animals, Zebras, Elephants (about 30), Antilopes, Gnus, birds, wild pigs... sun set and noises of roaring Elephants in the nearby bush, breaking down trees.
We had a hut to ourselfs - so much space, clean and comfortable.
The staff was very friendly and helpful - thank you 'Praise the Lord' (name of one of the staff members in English) for rescuing us from the dangers of the wild (-:
Breakfast could have been better.
Loved the bon fire in the evening. This was truly Africa!!

My family and I stayed at Ganda for a night. The staff could not be more friendly and the stay was really enjoyed. The waterhole was teaming with game - Kudu, impala, Waterbuck and warthog - the bird life abounded with - corwned cranes, spirwing, whiteface ducks, Dabchicks, African Crake, Arrow marked Babbler, Blue Wax-bill, Meaves Starlings, lapwings and herons to name just some spotted.
The accommodation is simple but clean and all you need. As quoted by one of the staff "we make the most of what we have" The beers where cold and the smiles huge!

I stayed here with my parents for 2 nights. Firstly please let me say a huge thanks you to Bernard and Cuthbert who made this experiance so great. They did everything they could to make the stay wonderful. The lodge itself has definately seen better days and could do with a little investment, but hopefully in time this will come. Saying that the beds were comfortable, the shower was great and the food was always tasty and filling.
The location however was magical, set right on a waterhole with wildlife all around from birds to elephant and a contstant stream of impala, kudu and waterbuck. Be sure to get directions from the lodge as the ones we got from the tour company were not quite accurate.

This lodge looks like it has been reopened without any new investment. Reception would look better with some paint, furniture in the rooms is old, pillows are hard, cutlery is not matching... But worst of all the door to our room wasn't closing and the gap let in a million of bugs like flying ants and others at night. And you can overlook all of this if the service would be great, but I didn't experience that. They didn't have Savannah or Hunters in the bar, only beers. The staff look like they don't have hotel experience. Food at dinner was 'all right'. But because of a power cut, we ate in a dark room with only 1 candle on our table. Some extra candles would have been nice. Also in our room we had only 1 candle. Extra candle in the bathroom for example would have helped. Also when we tried to stumble our way from the restaurant to our room in the dark with only the light from our mobile phone, the staff was just sitting there watching us. We had to ask if they could please light our way with their torches. Needless to say that in a country with so many power outages a generator is almost no luxury, but they didn't have one, or didn't switch it on. Bathroom was fine. Shower was nice in the aftnoon. In the morning we only had the hot water from the geiser but no cold water. Can't comment on the breakfast. We said we wanted to leave early and asked for some packed breakfast or fruit at least. But that message didn't get through. We hit the road at 6am without even seeing any member of staff in the morning.

All could be ok for the right price, but we believe we overpaid for this lodge. Location is great, but facilities are minimum as well as the service.
