“Delightful once again - only improves with time!”
Reviewed March 9, 2012

I have been a guest at Bernique several times in the past with friends from Europe. This latest visit was with my husband and 2 Canadian friends. Each of us was delighted with the warm welcome extended by Beryl at our end of day arrival. After our refreshing, homebrewed drink we were shown to our respective rooms.
I was pleased to see many improvements since my last visit some 8 years ago. All rooms are now airconditioned and have ceiling fans (ceilings have been raised to give an airy, roomy feel to rooms) and hot water is available. Welcome change from Mahe where we had been facing excrutiating heat and daily water cuts.
Breakfast is offered and is inclusive of fresh fruits, juices, eggs, toast and homemade local fruit jams.
Beryl and Sylvannia will see to your every need. 3 of us were unfortunately ill during our stay and they provided us with rehydration salts along with advice on how to improve our condition.
Beryl organised a day of boating excursions to nearby islands & made it convenient by allowing us to pay all fees directly through her. She will recommend restaurants on La Digue and give you vouchers so you have no need to carry money out with you.
Unlike many small guesthouses, your room is cleaned daily and every detail to make your stay enjoyable is attended to.
Delightful hostesses, comfortable, clean accommodations promise to make your stay memorable and have you return or recommend Bernique Guest House to fellow travellers.
5 star guesthouse all the way!

I do not give top marks only because the guest house is somewhat far from the beach (but please note only as far as an island 5 km long allows!) and does not provide bikes for free (which other guesthouses on the isle do). The accommodation is basic, meaning no luxury, but the rooms are huge, so are bathrooms and all have a little patio-like space infront with deck chairs where it is really relaxing to be at night enjoing the night air. Rooms have anything you might need from hairdrier to small fridge, beds are big with mosquitos nets which is quite exotic but a bit weird to use. No air conditioning but the ceiling fan will do. the nicest feature is that most rooms are all lined around a sort of courtyard so, if you are travelling with other people and taking up a few rooms, you feel like being on school camp chatting from one patio to the other. breakfast is pleanty and excellent with lots of fresh fruit, homemade jams, cakes and everyday something different: fried bananas, pancakes etc. and is served under a nice large hut. Upon request the very kind, always smiling and helpfull owner will cook you dinner with a real homemade feel (which is kind of the norm in La digue I have to say, even in restaurants, we tried Zeroff and another one by the coast somewhere near La Digue Island lodge, but the latter too touristy and nothing to wrtie home about). The also have 2 giant turtles

It is a lovely place right in the middle of the island and either walking or biking there is pure pleasure. beware of stray dogs, the island is full of them, they are not dangerous really per se but with no street lights at night they could cause some bike accident. the Nid d'Aigle is not far from the guest house, do take time to go up there, on foot is quite a hike you will be dead tired and without breath for almonst 15 minutes after you arrive but the view over the island is priceless especially at sunset and they can cook you a good dinner too.

Stayed here when I took my husband to La Digue as a surprise on our trip to Seychelles. Having grown up there, I just had to take him to La Digue and one of the loveliest, quietest and very sweet guest house on La Digue. For the amount you pay for the other hotels there really is no comparison and with Bernique's beautiful lovely location 20 minute walk from the main village and then situated eaily to cycle to any beach this really is a lovely place. Try and get the room first on the right in the last row away from the dinner bungalow as this has a lovely four poster bed, generously large white room and roses all over the mosquito net, really lovely. My most favourite secret stays but as few people will ever get there don't mind so much in sharing it
