Anse Patates used to be one of the prettiest small beaches in the world (we were on La Digue six years ago).Nowadays you sit with your back against a tall concrete wall, built for the access road to the hotel. Seeing the mutilation of the beach made us sad. The hotel itself is totally uninspired, a featureless hotel like there are thousands in the tropics. It all but destroyed the typical charm of the site. The staff is average and not flexible. The unique selling point of La Digue, its tranquillity, is quickly disappearing (more hotels are being built or just finished), turning La Digue into just any other island.
In hotel L' Océan, near the Patatran, they are struggling to maintain the old charm and hospitality (and the food is far better). At a much lower price, this hotel is a far better deal.More
