“Excellent small hotel on La Digue”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

Great small hotel right on the beach in La Digue. The hotel has friendly and helpful staff, good management, and delicious food. The rooms are new and very stylish and comfortable. From the rooms you just walk to the beach, which is lovely. There is also a small pool. The management and staff are all excellent. The food, Italian with an emphasis on seafood and pizza, is delicious. Compared to other places in the Seychelles, a very good value. From this hotel it's very convenient to get to most of the beaches on the island and it's not far from a number of restaurants and supermarkets. Can't recommend this place highly enough, it's one of the best that I've ever stayed at in the West Indian Ocean region, and I've been to quite a number of places.

We`ve been there for 4 days, and we regret we couldn`t stay more…
Hotel itself has only 8 rooms, which makes it quiet and comfortable but also not easy to book J
You have to make Your reservation at least 5 months before You plan to stay.
What you need to know is, when you are looking for a hotel on La Digue you should be aware that there are no hotels there with perfect and marvelous beach - comparing to hotels on Praslin located by the Anse Volubert.
However, forgetting La Digue cost line I have to say that Le Repaire is a beautiful and peaceful place.
Their Team is excellent, caring and helpful. They will take care of every little aspect to make Your holidays perfect. Energetic and enthusiastic Italian manager is adorable, definitely makes an atmosphere of this place – always helpful and kind.
Breakfast is not to rich but it's enough. First of all you get a plate of local fruits – passion fruit, mango, bananas and then You chose a la carte (bacon, eggs, omelets, sausage, pancakes)
Rooms are spacious and perfectly designed !!!! They look like in the best hotels on Costa Smeralda in Sardegna !!!! A taste of perfect Italian style !!!
The location of the hotel is also very good, probably one of the best on the island.
all in all in my ranking of hotels on La Digue ,,pound for pound " this is the best place to stay in.!!!!!

So if you want a hotel with great atmosphere, not too expensive and well - designed at the same time - Le Repaire is definitely a place for you .

Room Tip: Take sea-view rooms just by the pool- they are the best

We have stayed for 5 nights in this new hotel, in the first half of May, as part of our 9 days journey in Seychelles on Praslin and La Digue islands.

Our experience in the hotel was for sure a very positive one, made possible by hotel itself and even more by the staff.
After reading other reviews, both good and bad, must say that we feel that all reviews are true and depends a lot on who is visiting and what the expectations are.

Hotel is a small one but very well located on the island as it's close to jetty (less than 10 minutes walk), supermarkets, restaurants and a very good place to start exploring the island by bicycles. Open around 5 months ago, everything is new, the room was beautiful, modern, exceptionally clean with all appliances you will need for a vacation. As seen in the pictures, hotel features a restaurant, a beautiful garden and a small pool, ending with a small beach equipped with a few sun beds, table and round sun couch you can stay to admire the sunset :)

The breakfast was pretty standard for us but we have enjoyed it. Tea, coffee, natural juice, gem with butter, fruits (freshly harvest as we have found out in one morning), pancakes with maple syrup, omelet, scrambled, boiled or fried eggs. The breakfast menu contained a few more items you could order but we have choose to stay with the ones mentioned above as was enough for us. We have found out by staying to other hotel in Praslin that this type of breakfast was pretty standard on the islands, but the quality was very good on Le Repaire compared with the other hotel where was above average. Yes, it's true that we had to ask for more bread, more butter and even more fresh juice (we love it) but we have been told from day one to ask more when we want and as staff was so friendly, the process was not an issue for us at all.

Room cleaning was done daily, both bath and beach towels were impeccable and we have been asked to let them know when we want to have the towels changed. One day, while being on one of the beautiful beaches of the island, we have been caught by a heavy rain and we have been surprised once we got back to the hotel to see in the room another pair of beach towels waiting for us for the next day as the current ones were completely wet. There is an electric radiator that you can use to dry the towels or the clothes as was our case :)

Yes there are neighbors cocks that are yelling in the morning but we believe is part of the experience of the island. You need to remember the island is not very big and the resorts/hotels are mixed with local's houses. We are sure that there are a lot of hotels on the island that have the same issue as we have seen chickens everywhere. Now, on the right side, eggs you eat in the morning should be pretty fresh ;) For us the cocks were more like an alarm, to wakeup and go for breakfast at 7-7:30 as we couldn't afford to spend daylight sleeping in a such exotic island. Beside you can just go to sleep early in the evening as sun goes down at 6-6:30PM. Don't worry you will easily sleep after one day spent biking, "hiking" from one beach to the other, sun and water activities.

We feel that rooms could have better sonic isolation as some noise from street, reception and restaurant gets in.
Add the fact that in the first evening/night was a lot of fuss on the island (strange as was Tuesday) so we didn't sleep as well as we have whished. Next day, after talking with the staff, we have found out that we could switch the room just in the last 2 days of our staying as it's a small hotel and was fully booked. We were very pleased to see the staff doing their best to solve the issue. In the end we have stayed on the same room for the rest of our vacation as all other nights were just fine and we no longer had noise issues. We have been asked every morning until we have left the hotel if everything is fine and if we had a good night :)

We have been briefed about island beaches and the location of the hotel when arriving, but Nicoleta, the manager of the hotel, was the one who give us the tips about the best places to visit on the island and how we can get there, thank you very much Nicoleta.

The hotel offer the option to book excursions and rent bikes. We were very pleased with the bikes we have rent through the hotel as we've got new ones that were much better than what we saw on other places and other tourists using.

The staff was warm and wonderful and even if not everything was perfect, we would definitely book again.
The fact that both the director and manager of the hotel showed us so much care and made the best possible to have a great experience while staying at the hotel make us believe the services will get even better as the time pass. They are new on the market but they are listening their clients and ask them for feedback.

We have been encouraged to write a review but to write the truth so in our opinion all the reviews seen here are real ones.

Thank you

Room Tip: Superior room, upper level, closest to beach should be the best room in the hotel

This small & cosy hotel is well situated on the island (close to the port, shops and right on the beach) and rooms are nice.

The service, though, is quite poor with unfriendly and stressed Italian manager. By chance, the personnel is more helpflul with clients (e.g. Will, who helps to feel more welcome in this place) but in general the personnel doesn't seem very happy.
If you are looking for a quiet place, don't choose for this one: door are constantly slamming and cocks next door are yelling all day long from 6 AM.
Italian food in the restaurant is tasty but quite expensive, especially in comparison with other places where you can eat much better. And the service - again - is poor as you can easily be forgotten at your table without any dish coming for 45 min. Last but not least, the manager lacks commercial sense as you will always be charged for the full amount despite of the waiting, missing items on the menu... and you won't get any appologize as a compensation either.

It is difficult not to spend marvellous holidays in La Digue, so you will certainly enjoy your stay especially if you go for a romantic trip! But if you haven't made your choice yet, you may consider other hotels.

LaDigue was our first stop - after long travel we arrived very tired late afternoon. Staff was very friendly, we received welcome drink with very detailed instructions where to go, what to see and what to watch out. We were positively surprised about the hotel - It is new and modern, no signes that is used out, definitely very good choice for the money we paid - I believe you will hardly find such quality for the money on LaDigue.
Breakfest - it was standard (compared with other places we stayed), we had been constantly asked by staff if we want more of this or that, so for us was breakfest more than sufficiant.
PROS: nice and clean hotel, friendly staff, close to the beach, italian restaurant, good breakfest.
CONS: food in restaurant overpriced, specially in the nearby resort you could eat much cheaper and high quality food. Beach couldn't be used due to huge amount of seagrass, however this is not fault of the hotel, this was simply fact that we visited LaDigue in a 'seagrass' season. Although I think that hotel could put more effort to clean the beach - we felt ashame that we couldn't swim at all.

RESULT: If we decide to visit LaDigue once more in the future, Le Repaire would be our choice again, so I can highly recommend this hotel to anybody who looks for a clean hotel for reasonable money.

We just got home from 7 nights in La Digue, and for the whole week we stayed at Le Repaire. We enjoyed our stay for sure and don't regret our choice, but there are a lot of details that could be tended to that would greatly improve the whole package.

PROS: Restaurant has really good food (delicious authentic pasta and pizza, and yummy crepes in the morning), rooms are a good size, impeccably clean, walking distance from ferry jetty and local shops, new facilities, small size of hotel is intimate, staff were welcoming and accommodating, pool area has a lovely garden with beautiful flowers and lots of seating at the hotels own little stretch of beach.

CONS:
The food in restaurant is overpriced, especially considering there are other options around the corner that have excellent food (even pizza) and ALL are cheaper, and just as delicious, in comparison. Breakfast is hit or miss in terms of how the food is cooked and how everything is presented - 3 times out of 4 my omelette was overcooked, the bacon was under cooked unless you asked for it to be crispy, sometimes you have maple syrup on the crepe and sometimes not, etc..., and the table setting was also inconsistent - sometimes no salt and pepper, some mornings you will get lots of butter while others you will have to ask for it. Also, the breakfast "menu" lacks in variety for longer staying guests and is skimpy for the price you are paying per night - bread, juice and coffee were served in tiny amounts and you always had to ask for refills - not once were we asked if we needed anything during our 7 breakfasts, even though our coffee cups were empty and our bread plate and juice glasses empty. We felt bad asking for more of anything but we were forced to because there was never enough. We enjoyed the breakfasts overall but these small details could be greatly improved.

Sometimes the servers (local staff) didn't seem happy and were not the friendliest. Also the manager, an Italian lady, was stressed out and didn't try in the least to hide it! It's not professional to complain to guests, especially when it's about your own hotel, and it adds nothing positive to the guests' stay.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel even though I came down pretty hard on the details. After all, everything is in the details, and this is what guests remember the most!

Room Tip: Like in many hotels, some rooms are better situated than others. Avoid the Fler Zonn room unless you...
