“Pleasant surprise!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

Decided to have dinner here on spur of the moment visit in the area and this was a pleasant surprise. Small, but good service and food was big on flavor. The chicken and corn chowder was so tasty, wish I could take more home with me and craving some right now. I got a grilled chicken salad with goat cheese, cranberries, and pecans and not only was the chicken grilled to perfection it had the perfect amount of seasoning. It was also a large salad for a great price, I highly recommend this place for a great dinner without breaking the bank.

“surprisingly good and fresh homemade”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

the menu is really well done. looks like a sleepy little place and then the food surprises you with homemade touches. Recently they added a latin american menu to their american food. my kids got burritos. My son got bbq brisket which is one of our favorite dishes there and compares well to the places we used to go to in Houston, Texas. I got a chicken pot pie which was really good. they make all of their own desserts as well and we took home carrot cake which had a really good cream cheese frosting and was dense and moist. Make sure you get the jalapeno corn bread- that is one of my favorite things they have.

“Not as good as before”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

The location, good service and well thought out menu remain. In addition there are now some West of the border and South American offerings.

What has changed are some of the ingredients of the meals. For example the Chicken Caesar Wrap now has a lot of croutons and less chicken. Also the croutons are heavily seasoned and detract from the Caesar theme. The potato salad contained partially cooked potatoes. The dishes also seem to feature more onions than in the past, great if you like onions otherwise dominant flavor.

The other dishes we tried were still okay to good but in the past they were excellent. Still a worthy alternative to other local eateries.

Worth mentioning we do not frequent the Cafe as much having moved out of the area so it may just be an off day. Still I can only consider that days visit.

“Wonderful presentation and delicious food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

We stopped in at American Cafe after trying another place in town that appears to be closed. This place is everything and more as described by previous reviewers. Something for everyone on the menu, attentive service, and great tasting food that is presented as if in a fancier restaurant. If we ever go back to Glen Cove, the American Cafe will surely be on our repeat list.
