“Lovely? Yes. Worth the money? No.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2009

We stayed in the two bedroom, two bath classic suite, which had a lovely décor and views of the lake. It had beautiful entry hall, and an exquisitely furnished living room. A small full kitchen was outdated, but had all the necessities. The master bedroom was huge, with a fireplace, sitting area, bathroom and dressing area. The second bedroom was tiny, with barely enough room for the bed and dresser. The view of the lake was lovely, but was blocked by furniture, so you couldn’t really enjoy it from your room. There were no balconies, so no “outside space” from your room to enjoy the view of the lake. There are no elevators, so be prepared for a walk to the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms. We had dinner in the restaurant one night, which was expensive, but excellent. A continental breakfast was included, which was breakfast breads, juice, coffee and tea, not very impressive.

The interior and exterior spaces of the hotel are lovely, but at nearly $900 a night, I did not feel that the services provided were worth the price. We couldn’t help being disappointed that we were not “wowed” by the place, and wondering if we couldn’t have booked just as lovely a room at one of the many bed and breakfasts in the area. It was a bit like staying in your own self-catering apartment, without the amenities that you would expect at this price-point. I couldn’t help compare the price to other grand resorts such as the Greenbrier or Homestead, or even chain luxury hotels like Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, where you would pay similar (or even less!) , but receive much more of a resort experience. There are so many lodging options in the Geneva/Seneca Lakes area, I would recommend staying somewhere else and using the savings to buy wine (and dinner, breakfast, souvenirs, you get the point).

It was nice enough and in a great little spot but WAY overpriced - nice but not THAT nice - Also PLEASE! GET A WRITTEN QUOTE! for ANY events/rooms etc.(trust me, you'lll want to know what you are getting into) - MANY BILLING ERRORS and HIDDEN FEES for large dinner booked and room stay, with very little recourse as only verbal quote given. **side note: Justin the bellhop was very nice and helpful! Save your money and fly to the Bahamas or something - it's cheaper and sunnier

For our 30th anniversary we splurged and spent 2 nights at Geneva on the Lake. We had a lovely suite with living room, kitchen, bedroom, and full bath with lovely WASPy furniture overlooking the gardens and lake. The grounds and pool were immaculate, and we took a relaxing sunfish sail on Seneca Lake. The house and meal staff were polite and friendly, what you'd expect in upstate NY. Our dinner and breakfast meals were tasty and fresh. Maybe a bit pricey, but certainly a 5 star hotel which is quiet and just short hop to fine vineyards. We highly recommend.

We visited Geneva on the Lake for our 15ht Wedding Anniversary and purchased their overnight Anniversary Package which included a deluxe one bedroom suite on the thrid floor, dinner, breakfast and a few other things. We were greeted warmly by the front desk clerk and shown to our room by a very nice, polite young man who gave us a brief tour and then left us on our own.
The room was nice, spacious, like a small apartment with a full kitchen including a full range, dishwasher and full sized refrigerator. We were only there for one night, otherwise I may have been tempted to bring groceries and cook! Everything in the kitchen was sparkling clean. There was a bottle of sparkling wine, a bottle of local wine and chocolate covered strawberries for us on arrival. All complimentary. The livingroom was nicely appointed with Stickley furniture and beautifully framed artwork, as was the bedroom. The bathroom was average, but did have a Jacuzzi tub as advertized, however when one thinks Jacuzzi tub in a suite, one thinks of something larger than a regular bathtub, but that was easily over-looked. Everything was clean and that's mostly what I care about.
The location really can't be beat, it offers a great view of Seneca Lake from the rear of the property, and the grounds are immaculately kept and just stunning.
Dinner was amazing. We had the duck and the diver scallops. The wait staff was friendly and the live music was most entertaining.
Breakfast seemed to be a slight challenge. We had asked for it to be served in our suite and were told that someone would call at 8:30 to take our order. No one ever did, so we just dressed and went down. No big deal. We aren't really the type of people who expect everything to go our way 100% of the time. People forget things. As with dinner, breakfast was delicious. We had the blueberry pancakes and the crepes.
Some of the things that took a little away from the experience were:
As part of our package we recieved an Anniversary gift, a Jacques Schickel vase which was very nice, but it was stuffed in a plain white bag that looked like it came from the Dollar Store. I just felt this could have been presented better given the amount we spent on the package.
There was a bowl of complimentary fruit when we arrived. The bowl itself was very nice, there was a piece of gaudy pink tissue paper on the bottom of it, an apple, a nearly over ripened banana, a dougnut peach, some Hershey's Kisses and two Quaker Chewey Granola bars. My husband and I burst out laughing. I think we expected something a little - well - something more, I guess. Those were the best granola bars I've ever had though - it puts things in perspective when you pay a lot for them - and my daughter will enjoy the Kisses.
Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes - a friend with a lot of money who likes really good food. We are simple folks from simple means and this was probably a once in a lifetime trip for us. I enjoyed seeing how the 'other half' lived for a day and it was nice to see that sometimes they shop at the Dollar Store and eat some of the same snack food we do! :-)

We were very hesitant about booking this hotel for our July fourth vacation weekend after reading what other reviews had to say about this hotel. However, my parents had stayed here in 2006 and had really enjoyed it. I am so happy that we chose to check it out for ourselves. We decided to go on this trip last minute and they were the only hotel with availability. If you are looking for a modern hotel, this is not your place. The views are unbelievable, the grounds immaculate and the scenery stunning. The room itself was a pleasant surprise, we had a suite with a murphy bed, and, it was cute and quaint (by this I do not mean small). Maybe a little expensive for what we got but not outrageous (we have spent a lot more on accommodations and get a lot less). The only negative I can point out is that our waitress for dinner was absolutely terrible and we couldn't escape her for breakfast the next morning or two. The other staff, however, was great (the bellman was an extremely polite, talkative young man), the owner greeted us and showed us to an amazing table in the dining room. Dinner was great (not terrific), Sunday brunch buffet was just okay. All in all we had an amazing time and I couldn't wait to come back and write a review after what I had read on here before we left. Go, you will love it!!!

We booked this in short notice for a quick tour of the FingerLakes wine trails. Based on the price, we expected it to be good but it far exceeded our high expectations. The property is beautiful, the suite luxurious and the service very friendly without being cloying. We were treated as honored guests.

We had a King Suite. In addition to the large master bedrooom, it had a second bedroom with twin beds, a large living room, a dining room and full kitchen, In reality, it was a small, well-furniched appartment.

After an (included) wine and cheese party on the terrace, we had dinner in their rather small but opulent dining room. Dinner and service were surpassed only by the entertainment, an excellent pianoist and Anne Byrne, a young lady with perhaps the clearest soprano voice I've ever heard.

Breakfast on the terrace was excellent and we were truly sorry that we'd only booked one night. We'll be back!

We booked our reservations online and were very excited by the website's photos and room descriptions. We were expecting a lovely two room suite with Stickley furniture but instead found ourselves in a 70's style tiny condo not even attached to the main building. Heartsick, I went to the front desk and told the manager what we had expected. She did graciously offer us another room in the main building and at the same rate as the previous room, although the main building room rates are a great deal higher.
HOWEVER, even though the new room was a great improvement (at least there was room to turn around and some character and nicer furniture), it was hardly worth even the original rate. It really did remind me of one of my college dorm rooms. Teeny tiny bathroom, decor from the 80's, dirty carpet in hallways........ You know, you like to feel good about spending that kind of money and I just didn't. I don't think an inn of this type would be able to operate this way and survive in the South.
Nice back lawn and that's really all I can say........
