My husband and I stayed here few nights to get away from the city. It was far but worth it. It's quite beautiful. The grounds are immaculate with lovely gardens and statues. Right on the lake. There were lots of leisure activities like bike riding, bocce, badminton. But we found two adirondack chairs overlooking the lake, opened a bottle of wine and read. It was so peaceful.

The staff were wonderful and friendly, like they actually enjoyed their jobs. The suite was heavenly with great view of the lake. The bottle of local wine was a nice touch.

We toured the area, wineries, and hiked Watkins Glen. But could not wait to get back to our chairs and veg.

We stayed here for two nights while touring the wine trails and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautiful, full of period details such as high ceilings, gorgeous moldings, etc. We had a small suite on the first floor which was more than adequate for the two of us. The grounds are lovely and very European with the small maze and nice terrace and statuary. There was a small pool, but we didn't have time to enjoy it, though it looked nice. They offered a complimentary (though short) boat ride which was nice, as well.

The complimentary bottle of wine at arrival was a nice touch. It introduced us to a grape we weren't familiar with, the Cayuga white. The staff was friendly and helpful. The included continental breakfast was more than adequate. We ate in the dining room for dinner once and it was delicious.

There a few cons which is why I only gave this review four stars. The views of the lake are mostly obscured by trees. They have cut a few to give you somewhat of a view, but if your'e looking for that wide, expansive lake views, this isn't the place. It also is about a mile to a mile and half from town, so you have to get in the car and drive. This might not be an issue for a lot of people, but we really enjoy being able to walk to shops and restaurants from our hotel. (Of course the positive in that is the hotel is very quiet and private). The bed also left a LOT to be desired. I enjoy a firm mattress, but this was just rock hard, to the point where my husband finally got up and slept on the couch. For the price they charge, they should provide a decent mattress. That leads to the last negative - price. It is obviously a very expensive hotel.

Overall, we are glad that we stayed here, but consider it an "experience" hotel. It was worth the money for us for a short, romantic, one-time stay. But I probably won't book them again.

Room Tip: Higher floors might help with the lake views

Staying here is magical. The building and the grounds are breath taking. You feel as if you are in the Italian lake country. The views are majestic. However the rooms are not. My room did not have any antique furniture and the kitchen was dated. No luxury here yet it is not inexpensive to stay here. Nice pool and friendly staff. Joan was nice to deal with. Continental breakfast was ample and had eggs. Dinner just ok and expensive for what you get

Geneva on the Lake is like a dream, the gardens are something else and the GM Bill is responsible for hedging them. Where else is the GM seen to be doing the gardening. The staff were unbelievable nothing was too much trouble. The whole big picture cannot be described but must be experienced. The food totally complemented the stay. We did the drive around Lake Seneca and that was so worth the few hours it took, don't forget to stop at the local craft homes along the road you won't be disappointed.

I stayed at Geneva on the Lake with 2 of my friends. The purpose of the trip was a girls weekend out of the city. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and it was just perfect! The bathroom has a jacuzzi which was so much fun! We arrived in the afternoon. We relaxed along the water with some cocktails and snacks! At 4pm we took the complimentary pontoon ride around the lake. This was such a treat. We were so lucky with the weather! We finished off our day with the complimentary wine and cheese hour on the patio and then the most exquisite dinner in the restaurant. The food is next level amazing! The lobster was beyond tender and the flambeed desserts were quite the show stopper. We are already planning our trip to return in the fall. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff and attention to detail are impeccable.

Room Tip: B2C is a great 2 bedroom suite.

Hotel Geneva on the Lake is a beautiful, restful place that I would highly recommend. If you want to relax and enjoy the beauty of lake and sculpted grounds then this is an ideal place for you. To some of the commenters: if you want a loud bar and buffet dining, please go on a cruise and leave the rest of us in peace! The key words for this place are "old elegance." There is a parlor (with art, books, etc.) where you go for cocktails—very old school; very relaxing. The dining room is very formal (there's a harpist!) with excellent food and over-the-top service. I had both a dinner and breakfast here and both were outstanding, quiet, sophisticated experiences.

Beautiful suite... only wish we had more time to enjoy it. It was filled with antique furniture and Neoclassic period artwork. The view out of the sitting area windows was spectacular overlooking the lawn, pool and lake. . Attitudes a little stuffy from some employees and other tenants, although the wait staff at the restaurant were fabulous in the morning. The night front desk guy, although we checked in very late, was quick, friendly and attentive. We really appreciated that. The creepy religious statues spread around the lawn were a special treat. Only downside is that it was very expensive for what was delivered. I would very much have expected more that a continental breakfast for $500/night.
