“Wine pairing”
Reviewed August 30, 2014

My husband I booked a wine pairing! While a bit pricey, it was a splurge for us that we felt we deserved. I would highly recommend requesting Heather for the pairing. She is very knowledgable and if you ask questions and interact, you will have a wonderful time! Food and wine pairings introduce you to some new interesting food and wine combinations.

“Health Hazard!”
Reviewed August 28, 2014

We came in for Sunday brunch, I should have taken the fact that we waited for the hostess for over 10 minutes as a sign from the universe to leave, unfortunately we did not. Instead, a member of our party walked in and got the hostess to come out to the front and help with our reservation. We got a table by the window, a paint-splashed, dirty, stained window. The carpet smells and it is dirty, their window treatments are so outdated (not in a classy way) and dirty. The cobwebs in the corners are pretty intimidating, and are a clear sign of the carelessness of the property owners. After seeing this, we still stayed for brunch. Our server greeted us very pleasantly, took our order, delivered our drinks and we did not see her again until the end. When the coffee arrived it was lukewarm, once milk/cream was added, it became iced coffee. The mimosas, were premade in a pitcher so once they arrived to our table they were flat. We walked around the buffet to find very few appetizing items. The vegetable and fruit platters were freezer burnt and looked old, the cheese platter was matte in color with a little "sweaty" film on it. The smoked salmon platter was no where near cold, or even room temperature, it was placed right next to a heated chafing dish. The meats were no better, the carving station was pretty sad looking with clearly reheated, yet also cold, beef and very dry turkey breast. The scrambled eggs were in a heated chafing dish drenched in hot water, so you had two options: soaked warm eggs from the bottom of the dish, or cold dry eggs from the top. The waffles were lukewarm, very dry and hard. There was only one ladle to serve the different syrups with, so the mix of flavor was interesting to say the least. The mussels and salmon dish was bland and had a "funky" aftertaste. The garden salad had mixed, wilted greens. The tortellini with chicken in an Afredo-ish sauce was the only item on the buffet that was actually good. It was an overall terrible experience, the clear disregard for the guests' health baffles me. Therefore, we asked for our check and requested to speak to the restaurant manager. At this moment someone went and got our waitress who showed concern about our request, after explaining the situation she went and spoke to him, who never showed up to our table. Instead, removed 2 out of the 3 brunches from our food check, which was nice, but still never spoke to us. I do not understand how the NY state health department allows this place to continue to operate when they are serving mostly old food, at completely unhealthy temperatures, making it a perfect culture for bacteria to grow. Avoid at all cost, there are other-though very few-great places in the Seneca Lake-Geneva Area.

“Beautiful setting, delicious food, attentive service”
Reviewed August 27, 2014

The architecture of Edgar's would have been enough for me to be thrilled, but the food was very just terrific too. I had chicken, and the rest of my party had scallops, pasta, and porterhouse steak. The porterhouse was a little overcooked (the person ordered well done-so that may have been ordered incorrectly). Very reasonably priced. We were seated on a porch area that overlooked Seneca Lake - lovely atmosphere. Our waitress was very attentive. The table settings were very pretty. At the end of the meal, chocolate dipped strawberries were served for all in place of the mints other restaurants serve. Very Nice. We will definitely come back again any time we are in the Geneva/Finger Lakes area.

“Good food but do not get a hotel/restaurant package deal!”
Reviewed August 22, 2014

Whatever you do, stay away from Edgar's restaurant! When you walk up and see people waiting for the non-existent hostess for both breakfast and dinner, you know there is a problem. The hostess was quite pregnant and while this should not be even be a concern, she looked like quite unhappy to be working and was slow, un-interested and just plain useless. The dining room next to the restaurant terrace is solid stone and was extremely loud and we had to ask to be moved. Since we had a package deal including a 4 course dinner, our waiter simply ignored us as he was busy with other tables who were paying by cash/credit. Service was therefore beyond slow and to even get a refill of water was an act of impossibility.

“Great ambiance but the chef can't properly cook steak”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

Reader's Digest version: We both ordered tenderloin, medium rare and medium. We also had ordered, and were enjoying a half bottle of Opus One at $168 (about $80/glass). When both steaks came out we were so disappointed that they were both medium well to well done. The rest of the meal was okay, not great. The caramel apple dessert was, however, pitiful and we did not finish it. The waitress offered to bring us new steaks. We always decline re-dos. The easiest thing to prepare as a chef is a steak done to the ordered temp and the chef should get that right the first time....no excuses. It is a "no-brainer." Shame on this kitchen. The wait staff was gracious, nonetheless and comped us dessert (that we didn't finish). We were looking forward to a great steak to pair with the Opus One. Unfortunately the place is "all show" with little substance.
