“Elegant and Historic Waterside Dining”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

Our family rented a cottage on Seneca Lake and I prepared most meals in but we couldn't help but want to try this famous castle for dinner one night. We dined on a Friday night with our whole family and we had a very pleasant experience. If you would like a view of the water then you need to request it for sure otherwise the other dining rooms are very interesting in this old castle. Take time to stroll the grounds and look around at all of the details. Our server was amazing and very attentive and the food was tasty. I would say that it is a well-balanced dining experience and worth leaving our beautiful, little, lakeside sanctuary for a nice meal out.

“A Special Gourmet Treat”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

We visited Edgar's recently to celebrate our 42nd anniversary. What a treat! Our dinners were absolutely delicious!!! My husband had fillet mignon and I had roast beef. We sampled each others and both of us agreed that the roast beef was our favourite ... absolutely full of flavour. While everything we ordered was a la carte and that proved to make our meals more expensive than what we usually pay in fine restaurants, we felt our meals were worth every penny.
Since we stayed over night at Vinifera Inn, we had a delicious buffet breakfast on the covered patio the next morning. The actual buffet was set up near the spectacular fireplace. That alone was well worth seeing. We certainly will return to this very special retreat from everyday living.

“Great buffet, service and atmosphere”

Beautiful setting on Geneva Lake. Great lunch buffet and service. Reasonable prices, too. $12.50 for buffet and great local NY State wines.

“What did we miss? I don't see how the ratings are so good for this restaurant”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

I typically don't review restaurants, but this one was rather bad, so felt the need.
First, it's built up as something special, so you head into the experience with certain expectations, most of which were not met for us.
We had dinner there on a Tuesday evening. Our waitress was slow and hardly available throughout the meal. We had the set menu. The soup was on par with an average can of Campbell's and the beef tips tasted like institutional nursing home food. Nothing notable about the food quality or flare. Also note the dining room is outdated and very poorly maintained. Yes, it's a historic building and that's what we like - but you're supposed to maintain and preserve a historic building - not let it fall into disrepair and take on hodgepodge features. The place is not kept up, plain and simple. The setting is nice, but take note that the dining room has such a trapped feeling you can hardly even see out to the lake in the distance. We will not go back.

“Wonderful!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We had dinner here, it was our last day of vacation and it was wonderful. It's an upscale restaurant and the chef creates some great dishes and is worth the extra money. The castle and the beautiful grounds are worth a walk after your meal. There's also a vineyard and the wines are very good.
