“Great hotel, but very close to train tracks”

The hotel is in excellent condition and the staff were very courteous. However, the room that I was staying in was situated about 20 yards from the railroad tracks. The train came through 2 times during the night and prevented us from getting any sleep.

The location of the hotel can't be changed, but the hotel could be more honest with guests when they book. There was no disclosure about the room being so close to railroad tracks. I feel as if it is the hotel's responsibility to make the potential guest aware of the room's proximity to the railroad tracks.

If I booked the room knowing that sleep may not be comfortable due to the trains crossing late at night, it would have been a fair transaction. However, I am disappointed that Hampton Inn did not share this information and feel that it was a bit unfair to not disclose this.

Again, other than the proximity to the railroad tracks, this hotel is good. In the past, I've had great experiences at Hampton Inns and I expect more from a hotel brand that usually does its best to satisfy customers.

We recently stayed at the Hampton Inn in Geneva for our Son's wedding. We had checked other hotels in the area but chose here because of the way the front desk staff helped us. Geneva is a busy area due to all the winery's and the hotels are very busy so we had to plan months in advance. Other places were not very helpful and frankly not very nice. The staff here helped set everything up for the wedding guests and we got reduced rate rooms reserved. We liked that they offered free wifi and free breakfast for all of our guests. The rooms were nice and clean as you would expect. All the staff were very helpful. We used the common area for after hours for all of our guests to get together and we could bring in any food or drink we wanted.
I arrived back to the hotel late with a car load of wedding gifts and center pieces etc and was over whelmed with the task of getting them all to our room. The person at the desk working the night shift came out to my car with a dolly to load all of the gifts etc on it to help. I did not know who he was at first as I did not ask! He was a lifesaver!
The Hotel was very nice in all ways but the staff, all of them made it a great stay and memorable occasion for us.

This hotel was clean and staff was friendly. Nice location for our winery get away weekend. Breakfast choices are many with some variations from day to day. We liked the cookies they put out in the evenings!

Of the Hampton Inns we've stayed in various cities/towns, this ranks average.

Good: Clean, crispy linen, good location, clean swimming pool and hot tub, good internet connection, convenient breakfast, mostly helpful staff. Front desk staff on our couple of nights extended the pool hours for us as courtesy, and gave us excellent recommendations for local restaurants--we had pleasant encounters overall. Kitchen/breakfast staff is very hospitable.

Not so good: Our first floor room with 2 queen beds was REALLY, REALLY small for the price we were paying. The shower curtain smelled moldy. No fridge/microwave. One young staff member wasn't "trained" very well. This is an example: we decided to extend our stay one more day, which the helpful staff made it happen smoothly in spite of the fact that the hotel was pretty much booked to the gills that weekend with some wedding etc. Then the next day, our room key card was demagnitized for whatever reason, so we went up to the front desk to get it reactivated--a simple enough a procedure. And a new young lady staff said something that didn't make sense as a reason for the deactivation, with an arrogant tone of "of course it won't work, you should expect that it won't work because you are not supposed to change plans and expect things to work". It wasn't just us who sensed that tone, since another colleague of hers witnessing this encounter intervened and scolded her "I TOLD you this was the family who extended their stay, I TOLD you everything should stay the same as they are." We just want our key cards fixed--customers shouldn't have to be subject to such internal strain between staff like this. Also, a word of advise to the young lady--if you keep up with that attitude, you shouldn't be in the hotel business. FYI key cards do get demagnitized for various reasons--customers don't need smart explanation, they just need a remagnitized card.

Because of this balance of good and bad, we are giving an average grade.

I stayed at the Hampton Inn for a wedding in Geneva. The hotel was great! Clean, fresh, new feeling with a great breakfast selection and then water and coffee all the time in the lobby. It was in a great location, not right on the lake, but a short short walk across the street and you were at the lake park with running / walking trails and a boat dock for the boat tours. You could also walk farther into downtown Geneva from there no problem. We did a lot of that! My only complaint was that sometimes when the people in the room next to ours were real close to the wall or in the bathroom you could hear them pretty clearly, so the walls were thin. But it wasn't an overly noisy hotel in general, so it wasn't a problem and didin't interfere with my enjoyment.

This Hampton Inn lives up to the same standard of service as all the others; good service, friendly staff, clean rooms and a good breakfast. Overall good value for what you pay.

The hotel is right next to the train tracks and police station. It is within walking distance of the lake and there is a cute family owned Italian restaurant across the train tracks - good hearty meal.

If I went back to Geneva I would stay here again.

Very accomadating front desk.Very clean and comfy rooms. Friendly staff all round. The location is excellent as it's right dowtown and close to the waterfront. There's not much to complain about except the scrambled eggs served at the breakfast bar lacked taste. The A/C worked really well during the hot spell. I've stayed at Hampton Inns before and they've always been good. The CAA discount helped a bit with the cost but still fairly expensive. Finger Lakes wineries are in this area. Close to the Waterloo factory outlets and a beautiful drive to Watkins Glen for the races or a hike up the gorge. Something for everyone in Geneva.
