We stayed overnight this week at the Castle in the Chambers. We were in room Clay (105) room. Another couple also went with us and stayed in another room (102). We had read the reviews and thought that we should make our own opinions and bad reviews could be from people that just had an isolated experience. This was not the case. We will not return to Belhurst. First I would like to say that the staff throughout the entire facility was excellent and friendly...however that was not enough to bring us back. The upkeep and small details are ignored at this location. Windows, mirrors, hall tables...were filthy and greasy. I realized it is an old building and they want to convey the period feeling..but this is just a case of poor management in the cleaning department. Small details for example the TV is put on a cheap put together rolling table in the corner of the room/it could have been on a nice old table and been more in line with the atmosphere they strive to create, or mounted on the wall would have been a nice clean look and given the room more space, since rooms are small. Cables are just pulled across the room exposed hanging on the wall and out a drilled hole to the outside. The shower ceiling is peeling off and easily could have been cleaned up and sealed and repainted. Our window had an an inscription that someone wrote on that said "Clean me 10/12/2010" We were just there in Nov 2011 so that has been there a year now and no one has cleaned the windows. Curtains etc have not been cleaned or vacuumed for some time and very dusty. The mattress was horrible, neither of us slept well and were up every hr. Every time you rolled over the bed shifted as if it had a broken leg.Our friends complained about the condition of the mattress also. In the hallway was a table with glass top that had a grease film over the entire surface and dirt and dust. And we found this through-out. We were just very disappointed in the visit and wished we would have taken the other reviews to heart. I don't think I have ever had to write a review in such a negative manner but this did not live up to the reputation.

My husband and I made reservations 2 months prior to our stay in the "Study" at Belhurst. Upon arrival, we had lunch in Stonecutters. The food was good and the service was Ok. I tried ordering hot tea with lunch, but they were out of teabags! We tried checking in around 12:30 and was informed our room was not ready, however they would take or cell phone number and call when the room was available. After 3 1/2 hours and no phone call we returned to Belhurst and were able to check in. The reception staff could stand to attend a few customer service classes. We were handed keys and directions ~ that's it. No welcome to Belhurst, is this your 1st stay, or information pertaining to the hotel or the restaurant. You need to walk through Edgars Restaurant to get to the staircase to the castle rooms. The restaurant, staircase and stained glass windows are absolutely beautiful. The "Study" was on the 3rd floor. To say the "Study" was quite a disappointment would be an understatement. Apparently, new carpet was installed that morning, the chemical smell was so overpowering we tried opening some windows, but only 1 of the many window would open, the rest were broken. The room had not been dusted in ages, the beautiful staircase in the study was coated with a half inch of dust. Furniture was badly stained and/or broken. One dresser was leaning to the side as one of the legs were broken. The lighting was very poor. A room that size and ceiling that high needed more than one ceiling light, one floor lamp and one table lamp. I've been in road side rest stops that were cleaner than the bathroom in this room. The sink faucets were broken, the floor tiles cracked and missing in places. The surface of the bathroom floor was sticky. The walls surrounding the dirty bath tub were covered in black mold. The shower was inoperable. I contacted the front desk and requested a new room. We were told nothing was available but someone would come up to look at the shower. A customer relations individual immediately came to our room, upon entering the room commented on the strong chemical smell. She was unable to get the shower to work. Again I requested another room as was told the assistant manager would get back to me. We received a call within a very short time, I explained our concerns about the filthy room and the chemical smell being a health hazard to spend the night in this room. She offered to check other hotels in the area for us which we were agreeable to. We received another call with several options starting at $190 to $240 a night at another hotel. I requested our gift card be totally refunded in order to pay for these other accommodations, but was informed that Belhurst would keep our gift card to another time. I stated this was not acceptable. The assistant manager stated she would need to talk to the manager. Though mutual agreement, Belhurst kept our $250 gift card and applied it to another hotel, we just needed to drop our room keys off at the front desk when checking out. No apologies were offered when we dropped off the keys at the front desk. You would think with the manager and assistant manager standing at the front desk one of them would have had the common curtsey to at least offer an apology for our inconvenience. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. Save your money, visit the castle, but don't stay there.

Room Tip: Save your money and go to a different hotel.

We just returned from a wonderful wedding at the Belhurst Castle, Geneva, NY. Our son was married in Geneva and we utilized the Meritage Ballroom and 20 of the rooms&suites at White Springs, Chambers and Vinifera Inn. Everything was beautifully organized and the reception was a magical experience thanks to Carmen and her team. Food was excellent, open bar was great and staff was very accommodating and professional. The Meritage has an excellent view of the lake, a nice sized dance floor and easily accommodated the 150 attendees. I had a chance to see 16 out of the 20 rooms we rented for our family and bridal party. The chambers is unique and carried the awe of the old castle including rooms that actually have original features such as the fireplace mantle in the Dwyer Suite. Our son and new daughter stayed in the Tower suite and what a great room that was! Vinifera Inn both reserve and turret rooms are newer and first class. The turret rooms actually had a wonderful open view of the lake and the sunrise was to die for! White Springs Manor has the same charm as the rooms on site but it sits high on the hill and has unbelievable views especially in the fall. Every thing about the Belhurst was first class from the personal robes, castle chocolates left on your pillow and the wine glasses left to enjoy the wine flowing from the spout on the 1st floor in the chambers. The staff was very professional and simply left us a basket of towels for the day we requested no service. They also went out of their way to assist in anyway possible. One of the chamber maids actually carried one of my suitcases down the chamber stairs so I wouldn't have to make a second trip. We also used the hair salon for the bridal party and all of the up-dos were beautifully done. We would have another wedding or plan a romantic getaway here again in a heart beat..

Room Tip: Rooms in Vinifera are newer and away from the Castle Ballroom... Turret rooms are large and have s...

After having the most perfect wedding reception in the Castle Ballroom that we could have ever dreamt of, we spent our first night together in the Dwyer Suite. We could not have ever found a more beautiful room for our honeymoon. The suite was impressive in size, six of us had plenty of room to get ready before our wedding. The woodwork was amazing as were all the other architectural details. This room even had a fireplace that was original to the castle. Stained glass windows overlooked Seneca Lake and the bed was huge and so comfortable. The added touch of chocolate castles was so sweet! The Belhurst staff was amazing, going way beyond the normal call of duty. We had a perfect reception and first night together at Belhurst.

My husband and I went away to celebrate our anniversary and stayed at the Vinifera Inn at Belhurst Castle. We had arranged for a "Fires Package" which included one night stay, wine tasting, a bottle of wine in our room, a cheese board, dinner for 2 at Stonecutters Pub and breakfast for Two at Edgars. While it was a bit pricey, it was worthwhile with all the additions and all tax and gratuities were included. These prices are for non-weekend stays so be advised. Every room has a lake view and the rooms in the Vinifera Inn are very large. Our room included an in-room jacuzzi, 2 person shower, sitting area, gas fireplace and luxurious king size bed. It was truly a perfect setting for a romantic evening. The positives were the views, the friendliness of the staff, the food at both dinner and breakfast was very good, sitting outside at the firepit while watching the stars and making new friends (a wedding party who continued the celebration into the evening) and the romantic appeal of the entire area. A couple of negatives however were when we checked in, it took quite a while to get our wine and cheese delivered, the room, while lovely, did show signs of a little age and the water pressure in the shower was very, very low. Any thoughts of using the 2 person shower were eliminated once you saw how little water pressure there was for 1 person. The staff tried to be very helpful, even though a little slow, they did help us with our requests. The grounds are beautiful and you can't stop taking pictures of all the beauty around us. I would recommend this for a getaway for couples, with many different packages to choose from, including spa and romance. It is not the most luxurious experience I ever had, however, it was romantic, full of perks (little rubber ducks on jacuzzi tub and chocolate castles on pillow) and a lovely getaway nestled in the wine country of New York State.

Room Tip: The Vinifiera's rooms are a little more modern but if you want the castle experience, check out...

Belhurst Castle has the potential to be a spectacular resort that gives visitors a taste of the Victorian Era spendor with all of the amenities of a lakeside retreat. However, the rooms are dirty, the bathrooms represent a throwback to the early 80's (complete with mildew and green toilets), and the old wallpaper is simply old and dirty, and not entirely reminiscent of the Victorian Era. That being said, there is a charm to the place and the lakeside views are spectacular, as is the woodwork.

We spent a second night at White Springs Manor (advertised as part of their estate, but really two miles away). Again, there is much potential. The views of the vineyards overlooking the lake were spectacular. However, the place needs work, and there is no staff present to assist at the manor house.

Room Tip: The lakeside views are worth the extra money, and gas fireplaces are nice, too.

If you like new and modern stay away! This is a real castle with all the ambiance and beauty that goes with it. Granted some rooms may be filled with antiques but hello guys ..this a castle, not a NY slycraper. Our room was modern and updated with a huge window overlooking the lake and gas fireplace and we loved it! We ate at both dinning facitilies in the castle and loved them both. Food was excellent, a bit pricey yes.. but this is not the holiday Inn,ok. Everything we ate was worth every penny and we had several meals there including the brunch, lunch and dinner. Service is outstanding and the folks at the desk are kind and gracious. The chocolate desserts are rich and no doubt they use very exspensive imported chocolates. If you love chocolate like I do just go for it! They were amazing. At night at Stonecutters they have a cool firepit outside where you can sit around with your significant other, friends or family and enjoy the summer night air. The lakefront is beautiful and we had a room with great view. Our room was immacualte..., you couldn't find a water spot the wine glasses if someone offered you a hundred dollars1 Everything was perfect! We even took advantage of the jucuzzi which worked great and was spotlessly clean. The bathroom was very modern and again extreamly clean, spottless. really. I felt like a queen. I loved our room and would go back in a heart beat. Our room was over $220 a night, but we got it at a discount because we checked in late after 8pm, in teh middle of the week without reservations. It was a great deal.

Room Tip: Check in late after 8 without reservations during a less crowed time ..weekdays and you may get a bi...
