“Will not return....”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2010

The food was our main concern and complaint. We ordered the tenderloin which was cooked nicely but served lukewarm, ruining the meal. Another order of crab over pasta had minimal crab meat and pasta with way too much oil/butter so as to coat the diner's mouth long after the meal. Our children ordered the pizza and left over half of it...not cooked well and lacking in amount the ordered meat or seafood that came with it. Overall, it was an overpriced failure.
Red Dove, on the other hand, was excellent and has our future business assured.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2010

My wife and I were in Geneva over the weekend and made a reservation at Halseys. The lady that took our reservation was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

The dinner itself was a little disappointing. The pasta was done "el dente" but it wasn't even that cooked. The steak was good, but not even close to the Ports Cafe.

Our waitress was average at best. When we informed her that the pasta wasn't cooked, had no flavor and we weren't going to eat it, she simply responded with: "OK" and walked away.

She ultimately charged us for the pasta although the first lady (the phone lady) had it removed from our bill.

The atmosphere is great. The location is nice.

Some of the food looked amazing. So maybe we just picked the wrong thing.

“Excellent food, extremely slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2010

The food was excellent, but a bit pricey. We went there for a good upscale meal and I would have to admit the chef did a great job. The negative was slow, slow service. The wait staff didn't seem knowledgeable on how to get people to leave after they finish, as we observed a couple of tables of people who just sat talking with their boxed leftovers on their table for 40 minutes while several groups of people were waiting for a table. We waited 45 minutes to be seated. Once seated and our order taken, it was at least 15 minutes before bread was dropped off for us to snack on, our meal arrived in about 30 minutes. It seemed as if there was only one guy doing the cooking for the entire place, 4 waiters, 2 waitresses, but only 1 chef.

“Great food but takes forever to prepare”

We ate here twice and were very happy with the food both times. The service was extremely slow though. It took over an hour for the food to get to our table both nights.

“Excellent food, nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2010

We stayed in Watkins Glen and wanted to visit the other side of the lake. We had heard about Edgars's and Stonecutters (located at Belhurst Castle) and thought the menus we found online looked good. After reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to go with Halsey's instead. And we're glad we did!

It has an upscale atmosphere without being so fancy, it was easy to relax and enjoy the food. The food was of very high quality. Bread is cooked on the premises in a brick oven that is visible from the tables. Bread was served with a plate of olive oil (with drops of balsamic vinegar) that had three piles of "stuff" on the plate: fresh garlic, hot pepper flakes, and parmesan (or similar) cheese.

My husband ordered the soup of the day and a Caesar Salad. He wasn't crazy about the salad because he thought the anchovy flavor was too strong and there were anchovies on top of the salad, but I tasted it and thought it was fine. I had the salad special (Caprese) and I really liked it. I ordered an appetizer for my entree: Rosemary focacia bread with fire-roasted vegetables. It had tomato sauce on it with olive oil around the plate. A few pieces of fresh mozarella were melted on top. It had a great flavor and was very filling. The only negative was that the bread got slightly soggy from the sauce. For dessert, my husband had a delicious peanut butter pie and I ordered the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies which came with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. If you think you want the cookies for dessert, you might want to order when you're almost done with your dinner. The waitress said it would take 8-10 minutes to bake the cookies, but it was more like 15 though, and we had time to digest our dinner. The cookies were good, but nothing super-special.

The servers were all very friendly and efficient. One woman saw my camera sitting on the table and offered to take our picture. They seemed to enjoy their job and wanted to make sure our dining experience was pleasant. They were attentive without being overbearing.
