We've visited several times and enjoy each visit. The attached Fire House Museum is worth a visit as well.

Targeted to children, (a lot of instructive programs for children year long), but really it is of interest for aviation and astronautics buffs as well.
It leads you from the pioneers of areaonautics to the newest Mars exploration facts.
Besides airplains, engines, videos, it has hands-on items, increadible IMAX theatre, flight simulation machine, and other interesting items.

The museum is full of historical airplanes, a mockup of the lunar lander (full size) and an engineer who actually contributed to its construction and gives a very knowledgeable and fascinating lecture. There's hours of things to see and do. I think it's a place not to be missed.

We enjoyed our visit to the Cradle of Aviation Museum. There are many old airplanes to see, and many facts about them to read. We saw two IMAX short films about the sky and the stars. Our visit was four hours, including lunch at the cafe, and we felt we saw almost everything. The museum is not large, but filled with exhibits about aviation, with an emphasis on Long Island's role. Of course, there is an actual lunar module built by Grumman, and stories about the space race.
