Inn at Lake Joseph
Ranked #1 of 2 Forestburgh B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

The inn and rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Although the "official" check-in time is 2:00pm and check-out is 12:00pm, guests are welcome to arrive early and stay after check-out time to use the facilities. This is a bonus, as most places charge extra to do this.

As stated by others, the lake is approximately 1/4 mile from the main property...so the Inn "AT" Lake Joseph is a bit of a stretch.
There are rowboats and kayaks available, the use of which are free to guests. It was very relaxing being on the water; however, there are many areas of the lake that are very low and have tree stumps and rocks protruding, so care needs to be taken when navigating through it.

Although ample, the breakfast really wasn't very good. The omelettes were small and the hash browns were more like boiled potatoes...very bland and not "browned" at all. The plain pancakes were very "cakey", not light and fluffy as I prefer. The french toast, bacon and sausage were good. Best to stick with those or the fruit, bagels and yogurt. Lunch consisted of salads, lunch meats, etc. and was good enough for a quick bite. The brownies, offered daily, were VERY good!

The 10% per night surcharge for gratuities is quite steep, as this can add $30.00/night to your bill. Seems a bit high to me for having a sub-par breakfast served and your room straightened. Let's assume breakfast for 2 is $20.00...a 25% gratuity for breakfast would be $5.00. Let's further assume lunch for 2, that you make yourself, is $30.00...a 25% gratuity for that is $7.50. That leaves a gratuity of $17.50/day for straightening the room!

Unfortunately, as I found out, not ALL guests perform the required "cleaning up" after their dogs. This caused me to spend 20 minutes cleaning the grooves of my gym shoe!!

Overall, the Inn offers a nice, if over-priced, place to "unwind" and enjoy the lower Catskill Mountain region.

The grounds are well maintained. The Adirondack chairs on the back lawn provide a wonderfully restful place to relax and read a book as do the chairs at the lake. Walking trail is idillic. Deffinitely will recommend and return!

We absolutely love the place and are even returning this year for Christmas!

The facility is lovely, the Hemlock is the perfect honeymoon suite, the lake, boats, hammocks are wonderful! The food was delicious and the peace and tranquility cannot be beat!

We would recommend the Inn to everyone who wants to relax, enjoy nature, each other and the company of many like minded fellow travelers.

My Husabnd and I stayed here with a group for a "work" related retreat. Ivan and Ru were wonderful! The retreat went as planned and Ivan and Ru did everything they could to accomadate us, it was a wonderfully refreshing experience and stay! We plan on coming back again, whether for another retreat or just for a romantic get-away.

The Inn at Lake Joseph is the best kept secret. The weekend we were there, they were booked solid, but we rarely saw anyone except at breakfast. Great for couples, solo travelers, families, and even pets are allowed. The Inn has all amenities you could think of no matter the time of year you visit. Great hospitality, beautiful surroundings, access to Lake Joseph, boating/kayaking, peacefull, charming, lots to do, the best blueberry pancakes I ever had!! Oh, and loved the new fire pit!! Great place to de-stress and relax or you can find plenty of activities to do. All expectations were met, and more!! We'll be back!!!!!

We were looking for a quiet bed and breakfast no more than 3 hours outside of the city to relax after a busy summer. The Inn at Lake Joseph fit the bill perfectly. The Inn Keepers couldnt have been nicer, and it was some of the best breakfast I have ever had. Unfortunately it poured rain the entire weekend, but we still had a blast. Our rooms were very comfortable, and we spent a lot of the rainy day by the fire. The hiking trails and lake looked great, unfortunately we did not get to use them. My only complaint was it was hard to find a great resturaunt, but that was not why we went there in the first place. I definitely plan on going back to The Inn at Lake Joseph, and hopefully next time the weather cooperates.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Inn, with working fireplaces, whirlpool baths and private sundecks, is located in Upstate New York on a 250-acre private lake. Like resort lodging, Inn at Lake Joseph provides a variety of summer and winter recreational facilities, including access to a health and fitness spa. But unlike larger hotels, with just 18 guestrooms, a luxurious, yet informal, casual country retreat that assures guests a relaxing, private, rustic mountain lake environment awaits. Very much like the Berkshires, White Mountains, Adirondacks and Poconos, the Catskills surrounding the Inn offer spectacular scenes of lakes and rivers, as well as hiking trails with views of majestic peaks and isolated waterfalls. However, unlike these other regions, The Inn is no more than 2 hours from New York City. ... more   less
