“Beautiful Oriental Themed Hotel”
Reviewed January 6, 2008

Stayed for a week at this hotel on a business trip. I was pleasantly surprised.

In terms of location, it is definitely not what would be considered a true Laguardia Airport hotel as it is a 15 min shuttle drive and is not located near any of the other airport hotels. It is in Flushing which has a lot of activity. The surrounding area is an oriental area so if you want to be somewhere where there is action, this is fine, late-night restaurants etc. The best part is that the subway 7 runs on
the street right underneath the hotel so to get into Manhattan was very easy, only take 40 minutes.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated in an Oriental theme and is welcoming. The staff were all friendly and helpful and professional. Even had to use the maintenance staff who were very professional as well.

The room I had was a junior suite which was decorated very nicely. Had
lots of great features (big flat screen TV, Bose stereo, laptop hookups, DVD players) and the hotel had free WLAN which was great. Room service was great too, always on time. The cleaning service was perfect as well. I visited a colleague in a standard room and it was just as nice with the same decorating.

Overall this hotel definitely lives up to the Sheraton standard and is
a great place to stay if you have to be around Laguardia/Flushing area.

Like many others, I booked in at this hotel to avoid the expensive room rates in Manhattan in early Dec. 07. The staff were courteous, my room decent, but the plumbing in the bathrooms really needs to be upgraded. I couldn't get a shower over "lukewarm!" And the pressure for all taps would vary, going down to a trickle for a few moments, then gushing forth again. Never had that at a Sheraton before! But overall, a very decent hotel for an overnight stay or short business trip.

We stayed here from November 10-17, 2007. This is an outstanding hotel in terms of service and amenities. We paid $370/night.

First, we were placed on the 16th floor with access to the lounge -- very nice lounge with service in the morning [coffee, continental breakfast] and the afternoon tea time [nibbles]. We faced Laguardia airport, which allowed us to see take offs and landings -- very interesting, no problems with loud noise or sound. Room was comfortable and spacious, with two double beds, and standard stuff -- tv, chair, etc. Not large enough to play racketball in, but larger than most rooms in manhattan for the same price.

Second, this location is in the middle of the best Asian food in the country, parallel in quality to the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles. Recommend the Noodle House for steamed dumplings [xiao long bao in pinyin] and their sesame oil noodles [cong you mein], as well as Ocean Seafood for dim sum, and the malaysian place [Sentosa] around the corner from the hotel [try the nan bread with chicken curry and the 8 flavor ice for dessert]. If you are willing to stand in line, you can also get Peking Duck from a stand on main street near the overpass -- $0.75/bun&duck. As well, the close by 7 train or Long Island RR is a convenient way to get into Manhattan. Note, however, that it takes 20-40 minutes, depending on the schedule, tho' having lived in New York in my past for years, I favor public transportation than trying to get into Manhattan by car/taxi due to the traffic.

Third, staff was very accommodating. Early room cleaning, extra amenities, etc. were all available by a phone call -- don't know what happened to the person who couldn't get help in another review, we were constantly asked if we could be helped and greeted by staff each time we came in and out of the building. As well, workout room was very nice, with some free weights, a basic universal, a treadmill, two ellipticals, and two bikes. We used these each day.

Finally, the hotel has an airport shuttle that makes getting to and from the airport easier than trying to negotiate a taxi.

Overall, a very nice hotel, in a very nice area if you like Asian food, with a convenient shuttle to the airport. We will stay here regularly when we are back in New York.

Nice top floor room with a view of New York skyline and LGA runways. But also a lot of negatives:

1. LONG subway commute to NYC.
2. NO high speed internet access (in contrast to their advertising)
3. Club level offers (lounge food): Very basic and disappointing
4. Pickup at LGA by hotel shuttle: It took almost 45 minutes after calling.
5. Local area is a chinese beehive.

Will not repeat due to concerns 1-5.

My wife & I stayed here for 2 nights to break our journey following a transatlantic flight and before flying on to Ohio to visit friends. The staff here were superb, right from the front desk through the Club lounge to the concierge and bell boys. We had a club floor room with a great view towards New York. We didn't eat at the restaurant but my wife did have some food in the bar, great service again, which was fine.

Not a bad 20 minute trip on the subway into Manhattan but I wouldn't like to do it for more than 1 or 2 days, unless budget demanded it. The only downside is the location, which is a poor mans Chinatown. Despite a concerted effort walking the area each evening we could find nothing to recommend it, no suitable bars, shopping etc, although I'm sure that there must be good restaurants if you want to eat Chinese. Overall this is one of the best value for money hotels we've stayed in.

Recently booked this hotel for a 3 day stay in NY City. Selected this hotel because I did not want to pay $400 a night to stay in Manhattan, and this hotel is near the subway, so we could still get downtown without a problem. I think we paid $170 a night AAA rate for a room at this hotel.

I was impressed with this hotel. It is by no means perfect, but the staff was great. Upon arrival....we mistakingly locked our keys in the car and the valet staff went beyond the call of duty to get us out of our bind! They unlocked our car for us without question.

The hotel is in a very oriental area with all kinds of Chinese shops and restaurants. The people seemed very friendly outside of the communication gap!

Only had a few complaints with the hotel...and all are very minor.

1) We were supposed to have an airport view, but instead got a Flushing city view overlooking some run down restaurants and stores. Not a big deal and I should have mentioned again upon arrival that I had requested the airport view. Of course, it was quiet on our side of the hotel so maybe it was a blessing in disguise!

2) The A/C in the room seemed a bit tempormental. Looked like the filter on the system was a bit dirty, so it may have just been something that needed changing. It was ice cold the one night we returned to our room and then very warm the next. Some fiddling with the thermostat usually got the A/C to kick in!

3) Our wireless internet was very poor. I believe the wireless issue was caused by us being at the very end of the hallway. If you need a rock solid connection....I would probably ask for a room near the elevator as I assume their wireless access points are located in a central location on each floor?

So other then my VERY small complaints listed, this was a wonderful place. We stayed for 3 nights while we checked out the city. Getting to the subway station was just a couple minute walk. The hotel was very quiet, and the staff...especially the valet staff was tremendous. I would highly recommend this hotel

CONS
1) tempermental A/C!
2) bad wireless internet signal

PROS
1) wonderful staff
2) close to subway
3) QUIET
4) Nice size rooms
5) Good selection of cable channels (also had a DVD player in our room...although we could never get it to work!)

arrived at 4pm which is check in, booked Club floor two rooms.
Room not cleaned yet. Had honours card didn't get better rate.
Rooms ready at 5pm said light snacks in lounge at 6pm. Went about 6:20pm and very little left. Asked to refresh snacks and said that is all they are allowed to put out. Went to front desk and complained and sent more food, (cheese, fruit, ) to the lounge on club floor. It was all gone very quiclky I think they had other complaints. The free shuttle to the airport was very quick and porter helped with all our bags. I won't stay here again.
