“A long walk to see the lighthouse but worth it”

You will have to drive across the causeway from Southshore Long Island to the Robert Moses Beach to field 5. There you will park your car and proceed to the boardwalk on the side of the parking lot. Since Hurricane Sandy took half the boardwalk, you will find yourself walking on the sandy road to reach the lighthouse.
But once you are there, you can look at the beautiful view of the lighthouse. Go inside to look at the giftshop or use the bathroom.
For me, I will continue to walk down a very sandy road to Kismet, the first town you will get to on Fire Island.

Another lighthouse with knowledgeable staff/volunteers. The lighthouse itself was going through restoration so we couldnt tour it but the rest of the place was open. It was about a mile to walk to the lighthouse but it was a beautiful day and enjoyed the walk.

Ok. Beach is really good. Loved the beach. But the light house.. Its average. We parked out car in last parking lot and we walked to light house which is around 1 mile walk. Its Ok. Light house. Nothing that interesting that I should give 5 stars to it. Going back to beach. I enjoyed the beach and jumping into water. Salty water. But you have to pay $10 car parking. You must take shower after going into ocean.
Hope you enjoy.

There were signs everywhere that said don't drive up there but apparently we didn't see those until we had already stopped the care got out and took some pics. This is a cool place. There is a lot of damage to the beach area from the storm but if your around this area you should stop by and check it out.

Seeing this lighthouse draws you back to how things were back when. Big, it's light darting into the ocean just puts one in wonderment of how things were. One has to take the whole of Fire Island to fully enjoy.
