“Not Terribly Interesting”
Review of Jacob Riis Park

Jacob Riis Park

That whole area is pretty rundown. Plenty of better parks.

For years a good friend of mine has been trying to convince me that I would love the beach at Riis Park. I have been partial to Jones Beach for years, but I decided to give the beach at Riis a shot. Well I must say, this is definitely a different kind of party:) There were ladies walking around topless - and they did not have Victoria Secret model bodies. A few were just plain gross! They should have kept their tops on. Riis Beach is popular among the gay community. The section where most of them congregate is affectionately called 'The Village'. The Village has a cast of characters. including the tall slim guy who changes his 'costumes' and struts along the beach like Naomi Campbell. He must have changed hsi costume like 8 times LOL!! Each costume was more outrageous than the last! Oh, and then there is the older gay man, with his colorful costumes, which he also changes. The best part is he has a pet bird that sits on his head, while he struts along the beach.

As for the water, it's just like Jones. You must be mindful of riptides and the waves can be rough. If you like jumping and being tossed by waves, this is the place. I had a great time at Riis!

So here's the deal: if you want an exciting lively day at the beach, Riis is definitely the place. If you have kids, don't stay near The Village, if you don't want them to be exposed to bare breasts all day. There is an area where families hang out - and there is a playground and BBQ section. If you want a more subdued day at the beach, go to Jones. If you do go to Riis, I must warn you, if you are not open minded STAY AWAY.

Jacob Riis Beach is nice and all but the crowd is still to much for me. I like the Far Rockaway better which tends to be nice and quiet and surfers, which is awesome.

If you have a car, Jacob Riis is better because it's straight down Flatbush. The A train to Far Rockaway really isn't bad though.
