we did a 3 hour cruise out of Fairport and it was AWESOME. I highly recommend it. They had waitresses that brought you cocktails and the captian narrates the ride. it included a trip through the lockes too!

My husband and I walk on the canal path whenever we have a chance. We live in Fairport, but we go to many other towns on the canal to walk - many changes of scenery. We have eaten at many restaurants on the canal, taken Ferryboat rides, canoe rides, had picnics, and just sat and watched the locks operate. The Erie canal is one of New York States finest assets. We feel so fortunate to have it so near to us.

The trails were nicely paved or graveled, in some places. There is some of the trail in the woods, but it is mostly right next to the water. We got to see one of the locks operate, which was fun. Watch for snakes though, I saw 2!

Beautiful fall afternoon for a family outing cruise of the canal. We choose to tour only, not dinner. The guide and musician were really pleasant and informative without being overbearing. Plenty of room and very friendly staff. A great little gem in our own back yard.

We recently spent the night in Pittsford. We brought our bikes and rode from Pittsford to Fairport, had lunch and then rode back. The path has views of lovely homes as you ride along but riding on stone dust does not make for the most comfortable ride. The ride between the two towns is not long and so I would definitely do it again. Parts of the path are paved.
