For many years, we and our children (now all grown up) have been crossing Lake Champlain on the ferry from Charlotte, Vermont to Essex, New York to enjoy an ice cream at what used to be a seasonal ice cream shop with a great variety of choices. We would get our treats and then wander down to the beach, looking into some of the stores on our way back to the ferry dock. Last weekend we decided to take a trip across the lake again, and we found to our delight that the Ice Cream Cafe now serves breakfasts and lunches, and really good coffee! The ice cream selection remains the same - excellent - and there is now seating outdoors, all very tastefully done. If you are docking at the town of Essex and have some time to spare, I highly recommend you park your car and walk up to the Ice Cream Cafe which is just a few minutes walk from the car park and ferry dock.
