Consuls in Endicott has been our family favorite restaurant for over 30 years. The first thing when you go in the door is the delicious old-fashioned aroma of sauce. We like to sit for a while at the very handsome bar to have a drink or two before dinner. (good prices). We get to see lots of friends and the bartenders are usually very attentive and friendly. The sauce is just perfect! The pizza is round and thin-crusted! The bread is crusty - we usually go through 2 baskets at a time. Salads are large and crisp and fresh! The menu is quite extensive! My favorite dish is the homemades with fresh sautéed mushrooms (in butter, garlic and wine). Helpings are always generous - enough to save half and take home for the next day. My husband gets dishes with seafood and pasta. Another favorite of ours is the penne with vodka sauce with prosciutto. One of our friends had the stuffed eggplant - it looked delectable. The dishes with white sauce and chicken are also very popular. The most amazing dessert is a huge decadent piece of Grandma's chocolate cake. They have a recently built addition of a back deck with nice tables, big windows with solar screens, and a few flat screen TV's. Take out is available and always busy. Parking is across the street - on nice evenings, you can catch a youth baseball game next door. We always look forward to having dinner there as a couple, with family or with friends.

Tucked away in a residential area in Endicott, NY, this little gem looks quite unassuming from the outside. Once you step in, you're transported back in time - low ceilings, crowded little tables, a three season room out back. But herein lies one of the most varied Italian menus I've ever seen - pizza, grilled pizza, salads, pasta, steaks, chicken and veal - the works. We enjoyed a grilled pizza appetizer - thin crust with a hint of char from the open fire grill, the panzarella (sp?) salad - not to be missed, and home made spaghetti and linguine. Not the best sauce or meatballs I've ever tasted, but authentic Italian to the core. Also a great value.

We stopped in on a Friday night during peak dining time and were pleased to find we were seated right away. This might normally be a sign of a place to avoid, but it was probably due to the snowy weather.
Bread and butter came out right away. It was fresh.
The grilled portabello mushroom appetizer was really tasty, although it seemed a bit pricey at $8. The New England soup was in a thin broth instead of thick as would be expected, but it still tasted good. The salad came with too much dressing which should have been ordered on the side.
I would have preferred the Beans and Greens pasta to have more beans and greens, but I am not sure what normal proportions of the main ingredients are normally since I was trying it for the first time. My husband thought it tasted good but I thought it needed a litle more flavor. My husband spoke favorably about the texture of the pasta in his "Trio" dish, but declared his own meatballs better than the one from the restaurant. He also pointed out the chicken parmigiana was a bit on the greasy side. We took home leftovers and spent around $35 total for the appetizer and the two entrees which included soup or salad. They have a bar but we didn't order drinks.
The waitress was very friendly and personable. The atmosphere was nothing special where we were seated, and this is definitely a family restaurant - someone in the same section had a toddler who liked to shriek occasionally.

Nice menu selection, excellent thin-crust pizza (recommend also as appetizer). Food and service very good. Also has take-out available. May have to wait for table on week-ends (come early). Popular spot. Good wine selection by the glass.
