“Manager Service Lessons 101”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

The food was delicious. Period. Interior is undefined though it felt like we're in a Scandinavian restaurant. Bright and airy with a questionable "taste" but not offensive. Friendly and efficient wait staff. Manager needs to loosen up!

“Good food, service needs work”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

The food was delicious. We has chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi and tandoori mixed grill. All was perfectly prepared and there were normal portions, which I liked.

There were several service "no-no's" for me. We entered and were waved to a table; this was very informal for a new restaurant I thought. No greeting? As we approached the table a waiter redirected us. He was visibly frustrated that we were sent to the "wrong" table. Service was slow without much communication on the status of the food. I like fresh food so just keep me informed. In a 3/4 full dining room, at 9pm on a Friday (big dinner out night for many people) the staff began moving in large tables with buffet equipment. This required patrons to move their chairs and for some their food so not to be hit by the large tables sliding through the dining room. This action did not add to the dining experience. The manager who took the orders was way to distracted and should allow wait staff assist. The wait staff seemed to only set tables and deliver food. Paying the bill alone took 30 min!

If they can get the front of the house right, this could be a gem.

“WOW!”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

We went yesterday evening when we heard that a new owner had completely changed the space from the old Malabar Hill.
Wonderful spacious open airy bright with a very light industrial feel. Very un-Indian feel.
Poppadum was given with onions, and the usual dips, all were excellent.
Although not on the menu my wife had her favorite dish, Shrimp Saag which tasted wonderful..
I had a Chicken Tikka Masala which was delicious and may be the best I have ever had.
...
We also had Onion Nan bread, which we hadn't seen before, and again it was perfect.
The food fills your mouth with flavors and is just a delight.
We have dined at quite a few Indian Restaurants over the years and Raasa is the best of them all.
This is now our Indian restaurant.

“Very good food, but service is not ready for prime time”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

We tried RaaSa on a recent Saturday night. Located in the space vacated by Malabar Hill, the dining room has been re-done; it is brighter and more airy, but also noisy because of the amplifying effect of all of the hard surfaces.
We had an excellent and well seasoned appetizer of cauliflower and spiced potatoes, it needed to be good because we saw no other food for at least 30 minutes. It appeared that the manager was taking all of the food orders (did he not trust the wait staff to explain the menu?) and was getting in the way of the remainder of his team. And he really wasn't that helpful at guiding diners through the new menu and was somewhat brusque and alternately supercilious and argumentative.
The dining experience was redeemed to some extent by the remainder of the food, when it finally arrived. Vegetable dishes were well seasoned and tandoori dishes were well executed and rather generous in portion.
As soon as the management figures out how to manage the front of the house, RaaSa has the potential to be a winning choice.

“Former Malbar Hill”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

We stopped at the lunch buffet. The whole building was remodeled, and the interior is beautiful even the bathroom. There were good number of dish - both meat and vegetarian. The tandoori chicken was amazing! Also chicken tikka masala was very good - especially you can see the "burnt part" of the chicken. You do not see that in other chicken tikka masala. The "burnt" part definitely adds more flavor in addition to the proof that it was cooked in the tandoori oven.
One vegetable dish was so watery - I thought it was soup!
Over all, we really like the food.

Two cons - we were the first customers. And there was an owner/manager (?) who was on the cell phone sitting at the table. OK, he maybe talking business. But I really do not like to see a staff, including the owner/manager sitting at the table and speaking on the cell phone even if the restaurant is empty. If he is not greeting customers, he should be in the back speaking on the phone. The service by the wait staff was very good.

Another negative is a price. The lunch buffet is $12. It is less than 9 at the great place in Mount Kisco.
