“Best steak ever!”
Reviewed May 27, 2005

My father and I have visited Elmira for many years to see the Wings of Eagles Airshow. A highlight of our trip has always been a dinner out at Moretti's.

Same thing every year: Filet mignon, salad with the famous house Rocquefort dressing, side order of pasta, and a cocktail to start off with, and a bottle of Chianti with dinner.

My steak was ordered medium - rare - rare, and it was perfect, even with the little pink flag stuck in it!

The best steakhouse anywhere. First rate!
A great place with exceptionally understated service.
We hope to come down to the area this summer!

“Absolutely Fabulous”
Reviewed May 15, 2005

On Saturday, May 14, 2005 my husband and I hosted a dinner party for 36 family and friends in the Champagne Room to celebrate our daughter's college graduation. Everything from the decorations, atmosphere, bread, dinner wines, main course, presentation and waitresses was to say the least superb! The food was absolutely out of this world. The ribeye steak was 16 oz and so juicy it melted in your mouth. Not one person present could find anything to say but praise for a wonderful night out and a great dinner! Moretti's was more than accommodating when it came to planning this special day. They allowed us to choose as many entree items as we wanted (we chose 15 including steak, fish, veal, chicken, chops, vegetarian and pasta) and they typed us up a special menu with graduation border - little things like that really made the evening special for our daughter (other area restaurants would only let us choose 3 items for our guests to choose from). The tables were beautifully set with flowers and lighted candles. We cannot say enough about Moretti's, their food and their great staff. We would definitely host another party there as well as dine out ourselves (we have lived in the Elmira area more than 40 years and had never eaten at Moretti's until this event). Their reputation and their willingness to let it be "our party" was what convinced us to choose them! We even got to bring in our own graduation cake! Please give them a try!

“Maybe a 2-Star”
Reviewed January 1, 2005

Moretti's has a decades-long reputation of being one of the best restaurants in Elmira - unfortunately they've ridden their coattails into the ground.

The ambiance is nice but the menu is limited to a few dishes and a selection of 'pizza.'

The waitress was impatient and when we didn't quickly answer her prompt for our order she walked away.

We had to ask for the wine list and when we asked a simple question about a particular wine she mumbled something and disappeared, returning several minutes later saying she couldn't find "him" to answer the question.

We asked to see the bottle and she then said they didn't have that wine and asked for our second choice which we did end up with and wasn't bad. The bartender opened it and the waitress brought it to the table without first showing it to us to confirm that's what we indeed wanted.

That was the best part.

The whitefish on the menu was indeed white - probably haddock from Wal-Mart.

And the filet they brag about was remarkable only in that it was enormous - a very bad sign because the meat was inedible. I can't describe the taste: it wasn't gamey and it wasn't bland, but it was just strange. It was definitely not choice quality meat.

I asked for medium well and it came out red and bloody - I politely asked to have it done more so who knows what may have happened to it then.

I took it home and the ---- dog wouldn't even eat it!

The clientele was not what one would expect in a nicer restaurant: kids with t-shirts and hats on backwards, and dudes with dirty t-shirts hanging outside their jeans.

For the money you could go to Ponderosa and feed four times the people - with better steaks.

For pizza and cheap beer after a night at the bowling alley, go to Moretti's.
