While searching for ghost tours I discovered that the Chemung Valley History museum had begun to offer them. From what I understand this was their 4th year. It was very informative, not particularly scary, but an interesting way to spend an hour or two in late October. Also it got my teenagers into the History museum which they actually enjoyed as well.

My daughter is also an amateur ghost hunter and took some pictures in which ghost "orbs" appeared.

A hidden gem in the small town of Elmira, New York is the Chemung Valley History Museum is a small town museum with a very big town professional presentation about the history of the Chemung River Valley region. We had arrived in Elmira and were looking for something to do and saw a posting for a lecture about the women of Elmira College that was part of the museum's Fall Lecture Series. It was an educational lecture but the real value was getting to meet Amy Wilson, the dedicated Museum Director who was gracious in taking us through parts of the Museum which is actually a renovated historical landmark building in Elmira. We learned that the Museum has thousands of artifacts that represent a diverse collections - including the Civil War, urban life, social history, and Mark Twain, a little know treasure who spend much of his time writing in Elmira. Make a stop, it is easy to find and also take a look at many of the historical books and booklets available to learn more about the region . . . it was a good way to start our trip!
