“Beer and Wine Fest”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Stayed this past weekend for the Holiday Valley Beer and Wine Fest. We enjoyed our weekend and had few complaints. Pros: Great place with nice accommodations, enjoyed pool, spa and sauna. Service was good and hotel staff was friendly. Cons: Check-out is 10 am. They did give us a late checkout as we asked, but I'm told this doesn't happen often during peak season. John Harvard's Brew house (which is located in the hotel) staff was not friendly, the food was average and overpriced for the portions. A great place, just enjoy Ellicottville's numerous restaurants in town and ask for a late checkout.

Room Tip: Ask for a late checkout on the day you're leaving.

This was just a two day get away, so only a one night stay. The room was spacious and comfortable. The place was very relaxing and clean. The pool area was also nice. I can see this would be a great places for families. Separate bedroom, good size kitchen and living room.
Balcony was a plus. I could see during ski season, the location was good, ski in, ski out.

Room Tip: A wide variety of rooms to pick from.

This is a slightly above average quality hotel and time share when compared to other regional options. It offers several room options (suites/kitchens) but limited standard rooms. It has capacity to accommodate large parties. The lounge is attractive with a wide menu and appeal, however the food quality is average. Pool and spa are very appealing. On the downside, if you are staying on the mountain side, golf course maintenance starts at 6:15 AM which is incredibly loud. This is not an attractive element and the front desk is unhelpful. If sleep is important, pick the road side.

Room Tip: Rooms located away from the golf course and mountain are quieter. The windows have blinds, instead o...

We stayed here this past weekend. Not a peak weekend, and not very crowded. Here is the good:
- Once I finally got in touch with someone at the Tamarack, Tamara was very helpful in finding a room to accommodate my party of 8, and booking us for 2 nights.
- We liked the pool. We had several kids in our party, and they enjoyed the indoor/outdoor pool and the cooler of the 2 hot tubs. We were told by maintenance staff that one hot tub is kept at 97 degrees, and the other is at 102. I believe they do this on purpose to accommodate their younger guests. We enjoyed this "cooler" hot tub.
- Housekeeping and pool maintenance staff were very friendly and customer-service oriented.
- Playground was perfect size for our 3- and 5-yr-old.
- Rooms were clean, and big enough.
- The full kitchen was nice, and we took full advantage of the full-size fridge, oven and counter space.

Needs improvement:
- For some reason, they had us down for a 1-night stay. I reserved for two nights, and even received an e-mail confirming my 2-night stay. While my husband and I took the kids to the pool the first morning, my relatives were harassed with a visit to the room and 2 phone calls about why we hadn't checked out yet. When told as far as they knew we were booked for 2 nights, they were met with rudeness and a definite sense of distrust from the front desk clerk. This bothers me the most, because after paying $520 we should be given the benefit of the doubt. After I returned from the pool, I called to see what the problem was and was apologized to for the mix-up... but the whole time we felt they were blaming us and weren't really apologetic. Because of this, we never received any housekeeping service that day, despite requesting it twice. Finally, we did get someone to swap out towels and empty the garbage but that was about 4:00pm or so. I understand mistakes happen, but this definitely was not our fault and we were made to feel unwelcome and like we were lying about the whole thing (again - I have the confirmation to prove it).
- The bed was comfortable but the fold-out couches were terrible. We had one queen, 2 foldouts and one murphy bed. One fold- out was so bent, that our feet were about 3 inches higher than our heads. We had to switch around and sleep the other way.

Overall, I was disappointed with one or two of the front desk staff, but we found everyone else to be very friendly and down-to-earth. We will probably stay here again, although I thought for the off-season, and for a small western New York town, the price here was too much. I've stayed in a lot of great hotels/resorts in Florida, NYC, DC, Montreal, Toronto, etc. for less price. We'll definitely look for a special or something in the future. We all enjoyed the pool, the mountain coaster up the road, and the peace and quiet.

Room Tip: Worth the extra $10 for the full kitchen vs. the mini kitchen

Booked into the Tamarack for 4 nights, was very impressed with the room, very spacious and clean. Check in staff were amazing, especially Irena, she went well our of our way to make sure we got the room that we wanted, she took the time to show us different options and explained each ones amenities. Pool area is great, private pool is super warm with 2 adjacent hot tubs. Public pool was fun with diving board and slide. On site golf was challenging and very scenic. Spa was a bit over priced but still enjoyable. Restaurants are good, staff could be a little more personable or sociable, but overall good service...not great service. We went Tree top trecking nearby, it was super fun, very busy, well worth the money. The sky coaster was also well worth the extra $4! The only complaint I have is the cleaning staff on one of the days did not do our room to adequate satisfaction. Fresh towels were put out, beds were made, but nothing was CLEANED, toothpaste still in both sinks in the bathroom...left me wondering what else was missed.

Overall an above average complex. Well run, well staffed, well managed overall. Clean, friendly, comfortable. With that being said, the pool is the complete opposite. A complete mess. Dirty, horribly managed. Unruly kids everywhere. I'm not anti-kid, but both hot tubs dominated by kids with drunk parents and pool overtaken too??? Unacceptable, especially when they advertise as having an adult pool. I saw a child in diaper relieve herself in pool, parent blaring music while running up to room every 5 minutes to replenish beer. MONITOR this pool!!!!!

We stayed at the Tamarack in early August 2013 for a reunion weekend. We had the 1 bedroom which was clean. It had a full size bed and full size pull out sofa bed. The kids had lots of fun at the pools and also at SKY HIGH AERIAL ADVENTURE PARK and Mountain Coaster. They did not want to go home. We had a catered barbecue dinner for 40 people one night..it was just OK.
The hotel does offer Starbucks coffee in lobby in Am only. The spa prices were pretty high so I tried the Oasis Spa down the road 1 mile. Excellent massage for only $65 for 60 min.
