“Will stay here again”
Reviewed April 19, 2008

Reviews at tripadvisor.com were helpful in my decision to stay at this hotel for one night on our way to Cincinnati from eastern Ontario. This was the first time staying in Syracuse. Had originally planned to stay at one of the area Hampton Inns (usually have had good luck with that chain in Cortland, NY and in Pine Grove, PA), but I had second thoughts after reading some of the reviews here.

Given that our last few hotel experiences in PA and NY states haven't been that great (Hampton Inns notwithstanding), I was pleasantly surprised by the value that Cresthill Suites provided. Nice, clean kitchen prep area with stove, microwave, fridge and mini-dishwasher. We ordered in pizza, using menus supplied by front desk (there are more in the business center - where you can print for free). Minimal set of dishes, so if you're planning on staying in the area for a few days, bring your own disposable plates, cutlery etc, or see if front desk wil supply more.

Thought the basket of complimentary snacks - fruit snack bar, m/w popcorn, pretzels, cookies and complimentary sodas and water botter were a nice touch.

For internet access, you'll need to get a hook up cable from the front desk.

Lots of tv channels. Our suite had tvs in both sofa area and bedroom. Nice, large bathroom that was very clean. Small sink/counter area, but sufficient for 2 people. Great shower withg great water pressure. Bathroom is directly off the bedroom. Great king size bed, crisp sheets.

When booking rooms on their site, be sure to read room details carefully. Some rooms only have 1 tv, being in the sofa/living area and not in the bedroom. Those types of suites may be bigger and a higher rate.

Breakfast was typical continental fare - bagels, cereal, scrambled egg patties?!, bacon (delicious - cooked well, but not crispy burnt), fresh fruit salad, yogurt, fruit juices, coffee. Didn't see a waffle maker. Tables are adorned with fresh cut flowers - a nice refreshing touch.

There is a small area where you can purchase cold drinks and food items, including Stouffers. As well, there are various personal sundry items available for purchase.

A list of videos that may be borrowed is posted in this food area, most are family fare rated G & PG, a few PG-13 & R..As well, there is a bookcase with books for your reading pleasure, and a couple of board games for kids.

Didn't use the exercise room or laundry facilities, but they looked clean and in good condition.

Our rate was $79 plus approx. $10 tax for a Friday night booking directly through their website. Just be sure when you check in and they have you sign the rental agreement that you check the rate (they don't tell you it and it's not prominent on the page). My bill at checkout was at the $119. rate plus tax. They adjusted it without any fuss when I showed the printout of my reservation confirmation.

All in all we were pleased with our experience and would stay there again, even at the $119 rate. It was clean, quiet (we were away from the front lobby) and I didn't hear people in the hallways.

  • Liked — Clean, quiet, well maintained
  • Disliked — Nothing really, just confirm your rate

We visit Syracuse several times a year to see our family. We were staying at another hotel that was noisy and dirty even though it was a Hilton property. I called Cresthill Suites at 1am to see if they had availability. Thankfully, they did and we moved over the next day. The staff is incredibly helpful and considerate. They upgraded our room and without a doubt, it was the nicest and cleanest suite we have ever stayed at. Two bedrooms, living room, kitchen and two bathrooms-and three tv's! Complimentary soda and snacks, free laundry facilities, free internet access, free newspapers, free breakfast completed the great deal. Truly, I wish we needed to stay longer. We will never stay anywhere else when we visit Syracuse.

This is a very nice hotel. Big room with a sofa and place to work. The host at the front desk was over the top friendly. Good breakfast except there was a line for the one whaffle maker. We were in a room right next to the front doors and the sound of people coming and going did bother us some times.

This was my first time to the area. I tend to do alot of hotel comparison shopping before making a reservation. After reading a number of reviews I decided to stay at Cresthill Suites in East Syracuse.
We were very pleased with what we saw and the warmth and welcome of the front desk staff. The room was roomy; we never ran out of hot water in the shower, and the heat worked great (which was a must for this Southern lady). :)
The lobby area is pleasant with a 2 large windows overlooking the outdoor pool area (which happened to be snow covered while we were there, but very pretty). There's a nice TV on the wall, and a small computer room to the side. We weren't able to take advantage of the dinner, but we did have their complimentary breakfast. It had been pretty picked over by the time we got out there to eat, but that's our fault, and we still had plenty to eat to carry us until later in the day.
We had a room on the 1st floor which we liked, but if we stay there again, we will stay in a different room. As previously mentioned, the room itself is great, but it's the first room on the hallway close to the lobby. That meant that we were awakened by the front doors banging early in the mornings (seemed more incessant than actual I'm sure), and lobby noise. That was a live and learn.
The hotel doesn't have any control over this, but I thought that I would mention it anyway. We found it strange that there were very few eating establishments close by. There was a McDonalds and a Starbucks. If you want anything else, you have to travel to Erie Blvd. This wasn't really an issue for us, but thought it was interesting.
We enjoyed our stay at Cresthill and would highly recommend it.

  • Liked — great value; kitchenette, room and water temp great
  • Disliked — I should have asked for a different room due to the noise factor.

My family was in Syracuse for a couple of weeks this August. We choose Crest Hill suites for the facilities, outdoor pool and promise of breakfast/dinner free of charge.

First let me start by saying the hotel grounds are very clean. Some, NOT ALL of the hotel staff is warm and very helpful. Leo and Penny at the front desk were fabulous, providing driving directions, restaurant recommendations and just nice company! Unfortunately there were also a few front desk staff who were not so helpful, they provided inaccurate directions, never smiled or greeted us (even after seeing us daily for over 2 weeks)! The hotel provides a great shuttle service to local offices, airport, hospital etc. with a wonderful driver named Dick.

The breakfast was mediocre at best. Often the food ran out before breakfast time was over and was not replaced. In addition if you were still eating at 9 AM they cleaned the breakfast as you tried to serve yourself. One morning while toasting a bagel for my child, the rather unfriendly breakfast employee took away the silverware and condiments (butter, cream cheese etc.) and rudely reminded me and my young child breakfast is over".

The dinner service on some nights is great but most just mediocre. The highlight is a great BBQ (by the fabulous Dick) on Wednesday evenings. The other 3 nights they rotate between reheated frozen entrees such as Stauffers frozen mac and cheese, frozen meatballs etc. as well as donations from local restaurants which they supplement with frozen reheated entrees. The only real negative is again they tend to run out of food if you are not there promptly.

Housekeeping is great in the common areas the care of the rooms is just good. For example, if you had crumbs on the carpet you would have to ask them to vacuum or the crumbs would sit for a week. Sheets are changed twice a week which is fine and you can ask for them to be changed more often if necessary. They definitely do not go the extra yard like a large chain would. The bed was made and dirty towels taken daily. One day my son left a DVD on his bed and we were left a note from housekeeping advising us to please remove all items from bed if we would like it made. In addition on our last day the housekeeping asked us at 8 30 AM when we would be leaving so she can clean.

What struck me the most was when we departed after spending quite a bit of time and money at the hotel, the 3 workers (including management) at the front desk just watched us leave without a thank you for staying with us or a travel safely!

All in all our stay was fine. My personnel advise the manager would be to enroll your employees in hotel/customer service training.

Stayed in hotel fro 2.5 weeks in August following my sons surgery in Syracuse. I can not say enough great things about both the facility and the staff!
We are very picky and when we vacation we usually stay at either Westin Hotels or Ritz Carltons.
I would say the service at Crest Hill is up to par with the above mentioned large chains.

The 2 bedroom suites were extremly clean and roomy. The beds very comfortable (new I think). The kitchen is well kept all has a dish washer. Laundry facilities are also updated and free of charge.

The pool is very clean and nice! Breakfast is okay not great but good enough. The hotel also provides a light meal on weeknights which is catered by local food establishments. This is hit or miss depending on personnel food preference. Wed. night the y have a bbq which is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

The staff is fantastic and you really feel like. Super helpful and friendly management as well as Leo, Penny and Earl at the front desk!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
