We had GREAT honeymoon holiday in Kurumba Maldives, we loved our private beach front villa with jacuzzi, our front door opened onto the beach and clear ocean and the coral reef where we snorkeled, it was AMAZING!!!! ..... The sunset cruise was worth going on just to see all the playful dolphins-it was incredible experienced.
The buffet food was really nice and the service is very good...just wish the shops sold soft drinks that we could take back to the villa as the minibar has limited softdrink item and proved to be expensive over the week.

Overall very beautiful Island and already making plans to return.

Food and staff here was out of this world-variety of choice and the christmas spread was vast.
The staff were so friendly and you felt as though you had known them for ever -no request was ignored and they could not do enough for you whatever the time of day.
This was a holiday of a lifetime although not cheap worth every penny spent.

My husband and I are just back from spending 2 weeks at the Kurumba on our honeymoon.

TRANSFER

When we arrived at Male airport, our reps were there to meet us. We were dealt with very efficiently. Our transfer was 15 mins by speedboat where we were given wet flannels to freshen up with and a bottle of water each.

We were met off the boat by staff and were taken into a lounge at the Kurumba, given a welcome drink and quickly allocated our rooms and driven there in golf buggies.

ACCOMMODATION

We had a deluxe bungalow on the beach. The bungalow was spacious and very very clean. The bathroom was huge, with 2 separate sinks, a shower and a large bath. Outside was a small garden area with an outdoor shower.

The bedroom had a kingsize 4-poster bed which was very comfortable. The room is also air conditioned and equipped with a ceiling fan.

The room was cleaned in the morning, with an evening turndown service when the floors were brushed again, fresh towels were left and the tea/coffee and mini bar was restocked.

You also get a green towel each which is for the sun loungers.

They also supply tissues, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion - these are all refilled everynight so there is no need to take your own.

You get 2 bottles of complimentary water per day plus a large jug of water and a bucket of ice.

The mini bar is stocked with a good range of soft drinks, wines, champagne and spirits.

RESTAURANTS

Breakfast is a buffet with all sorts from fish curry to duck and veal sausages to bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, omelette, porridge, all sorts of bread, croissants, fresh fruit, yoghurt.. the list is endless and you could eat til you burst.

Evening dinner everynight consisted of a different theme.... when we were there we had a balinese night, japanese,. chinese, italian, arabian nights, sea food, continental, again the list was endless for evening meals... the food was just fantastic. Everything was fresh and the way it was presented was amazing. The service was second to none, it was always a race to get seated at my table before the waiter got the chair for me.

There are also several other restaurants on the resort.. italian, lebanese, chinese, japanese, the beach bar, coffee shop, ocean grill - im sure I have missed some too.

We ate in the ocean grill a couple of times. You can get a 30% discount voucher to eat here if you are full or half board. The steak is fantastic, the best we had ever eaten.

There is live entertainment every night in the beach bar.

WEATHER

Although its still supposed to be monsoon season, we had about 5 mins of rain one evening and that was all we saw for the entire 2 weeks. It was hot (early 30's) everyday.

PESTS

I would normally get bitten by mosquitos when I go anywhere though I only got one small bite on the back of each hand. My husband got quite a few bites on his ankles and elbows - his bites were itchy but mine werent so we couldnt figure out what we both had been bitten by. We didnt see one cockroach. There were a few large ants and sandflys on the beach but they didnt pose a problem.

PRICES

Trips and excursions are expensive. Its over $700 for the big game fishing. The glass bottom boat cost $25 each and was a total waste of time - we didnt see any different fish than what we both saw when we went snorkelling.

My husband treated me to a champagne breakfast on the beach which was a cooked breakfast with toast and danish pastries, tea/coffee and a bottle of champagne.. this came to $185.

There are other trips you can go on, too many to list here and all expensive anyway.

Take US Dollars with you as everything is priced in dollars.

STAFF

The staff were fantastic. I have never been anywhere where the staff have been so helpful and friendly. Everyone has a smile and a big hello for you. The service is second to none. Look out for Javed, one of the gardeners... he sorted our sun loungers every morning and put our towels out for us. He brought me a flower everyday and at the end of our honeymoon he gave us a present to take home with us. He is a lovely guy very friendly and polite.

All in all this is a fantastic place but is one of the closest resorts to the airport. If you are honeymooning and looking for somewhere more secluded this place is not for you. It is quite crowded and allows families. I could write so much more but think the review is long enough already.

I wouldnt hesitate to return to the Maldives but would go somewhere a bit more secluded and farther away from the airport next time.

Words are not enough to describe this paradise. Absolutely AMAZING. We spend at kurumba resort Maldives 8 days for our honeymoon on august 2007 and had one of our happiest moments of our life.
As soon we landed in male airport we where picked up by people of the resort and broad to the island by a speed boat. The resort is about 10 minutes far from male. The people was gentle, they gave us 2 bottles of cold water and wet towels to wash up and at the resort they welcomed us with a lime cocktail and check in was the fastest we ever had. Luggage was send to the room and we where taken to our Deluxe Beach Front Bungalow with a buggy. We stayed at Bungalow 174 which I highly recommend. This bungalow is right in front of the beach with private umbrella and sun beds and with much more privacy than other bungalows. The Bungalows are absolutely amazing. Bath with 2 sinks, garden with an open air shower, King size double bed, huge porch, nice furniture, real luxury.
The service and people was really stunning. Everybody had a smile on his face and caring about anything you may need. Room was cleaned 2 times / day. Clean beach towels every day and different towels for the pool. Everything was so clean. They even had people to clean the sand from the tree leaves. The person who cleaned the garden and sand of our bungalow was Javed, a really nice person. He brought us everyday flowers and he gifted us a coconut, we chat everyday a while and then he continued his work with a smile.
Room service has a huge variety of foods and drinks and everything is served very quickly. The food and restaurants are great, specially the Indian restaurant. The restaurant manager is Ignatios Fernando he is a really gentlemen and knows how to please customers. He made us to feel like we where guests at his home. We tried all restaurants and everything was great. Even the buffet is with different foods every night. Breakfast was also great with a huge variety of foods for everyone.
A huge range of water sports are offered in kurumba. Also Bring Snorkels with you. The underwater world is amazing there. You will love it. The Spa facilities are also great and the people there are also nice. There are also 3 tennis courts and a gym.
Overall I must say that it’s the first time I received so much value for the money I spend there. It worth’s every cent. They treat you like kings and the place is absolutely gorgeous. Don’t think twice just go there.

Kurumba is one of the bigger Maldives resorts which is why I my husband and I picked it. We are used to more lively holidays and picked a resort with a bit more going on! The island is very close to Male which has advantages and disadvantages - you don't get such a "remote" feeling but it's great to pop over to Male for some reality and shopping and it's convenient after a long flight from the UK to hop on a very nice boat for 10 mins and arrive at your destination rather than travel for hours. The resort itself is excellent. Beautifully maintained and a really luxurious feel. The food is of an extremely high standard and I came back somewhat heavier than I went! The staff are polite and friendly and the rooms are serviced twice a day. The island has good snorkelling so no need to go elsewhere unless you want to. PADI dive school on site and excursions available if you actually want to leave. We went for 2 weeks to make the most of the long haul flight but had done most of the available activities by the second week so maybe it would be better combined with another destination? Overall, we were very impressed and if there weren't other places we were also very keen to visit we would definitely go back. 5/5.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Kurumba for 7 nights in June. The only word that can describe it - “Paradise”. After much research on the internet we decided on Kurumba due to its 5 star status. We like to be spoilt to luxury accommodation and we certainly weren’t disappointed.

We arrived at Male airport and within minutes we were greeted by a representative who took us to our transfer…a private speed boat. We were given a bottle of water and a cold flannel (much needed after our 11 hour flight). The transfer to the island is roughly 10 mins. There we were greeted by another representative who took us to reception where we were given a cocktail. The moment we arrived on the island we knew we were in for a fantastic holiday.

From reception we were taken to our bungalow. There are no cars on the island, except golf type buggies. Beware! The staff are lethal drivers so hold on tight!! We were given a tour of the island on our way to our bungalow. Even though we were told the island was 70% full, you hardly see anyone, it’s so quiet and peaceful.

We booked an ocean front deluxe bungalow and it was well worth paying that little bit extra. The room was amazing, with a four poster bed, luxury bathroom with outdoor shower (watch out for the lizards) and decked outdoor area. The view was stunning, we were literally steps away from the sea. Gorgeous. The rooms are cleaned thoroughly twice a day and the staff decorate the bed with flowers in the evening. Lovely.

The weather was fantastic, we had read that June wasn’t the best time to visit the Maldives however we had beautiful weather all week. Although it may be cloudy, beware you can still get sunburnt (as I found out!). We had one evening where it rained, unfortunately for us the heavens opened as we left our bungalow to go for dinner. But as always the staff were on hand and within minutes we saw a golf buggie heading our way to collect us!

The staff, in our opinion, are what make Kurumba so special. They treat you like royalty from the moment you arrive. They are always there to help and do everything with a smile, they can’t do enough for you. They keep the resort immaculate and credit should be given to each of them.

We chose to stay on a bed and breakfast basis. As I’m vegetarian we wanted the variety of the 9 restaurants on the island to choose from. The buffet breakfast is outstanding, there is so much choice. For guests staying on a half board basis, the theme for the buffet in the main restaurant changed every evening and we actually went there most nights. There was always plenty of choice for vegetarians. Being chocoholics we particularly enjoyed the desserts! Mmmm! Some reviews say that the food and drink are expensive, but we found the prices very reasonable and the food is top class. The Chinese restaurant, Ming Court, is a must…the best Chinese we have ever had!

There is plenty to do at Kurumba. As a treat we booked the hot stone massage for two – quite expensive but worth it. You get an hour prior to the massage to use the Jacuzzi and steam room. All very relaxing! Feeling more adventurous and energised we hired a two man kayak and went around the island (this is very good if you can master steering it…I didn’t! I left my boyfriend to do the work while I laid back to catch the sun).

All in all the holiday was fantastic and we have lots of happy memories. The crystal clear water of the sea and the white sandy beaches are divine. The staff are amazing and the food is gorgeous. The service we received was outstanding. We haven’t got a bad word to say about our experience at Kurumba. We had high hopes for our holiday, but Kurumba was way beyond our expectations. We are definitely returning next year and we can’t wait!!!

My boyrfriend and I stayed at Kurumba between the 17th and 29th of July. We loved it! We stayed in a deluxe bungalow, number 252, which was one of the numbers I requested by emailing the hotel as we wanted one closest to the beach. We were on the side away from the airport and male, good view. Excellent room, cleaned twice a day. Lovely bathroom, my boyfriend used it but I didn't use the outdoor shower cos there was a lot of shrubbery and i was a bit scared of showering with lizards!
Spent the days lazing on the beach, snorkelling, lazing, and when we could muster up the energy we went kayaking. Very tiring in the midday sun!
We booked in the spa for a double massage, the spa was lovely and the massage was very good, if a little sore! Worth it for a treat!
We also booked the champagne breakfast on our last day, expected just a glass of champagne bur got a bottle, not so good at 10 in the morning, had to go for a lie down after one glass!! It was expensive, but was something you don't do everyday( well I dont!)
Weather was rainy the first two days( was expecting this anyway) but lovely blue skies the rest!
Food excellent. Great choice at the main restaurant. We were half board but ate in the ocean grill and the italian twice. Both were top class.
Service at the hotel was excellent, we tipped most nights, everyone always had a smile for you.
Would definetely return to the maldives and Kurumba but for for our next visit we would like to try another island, a bit further away. The planes flying overhead were obviously quite noticeable but it didn't detract anything from our holiday!
