We stayed in a deluxe room which was as described in the hotel site and pictures. The deluxe rooms are not very big but sufficient and very comfortable with a great outdoor bathroom with shower and tube. When getting to the room it was clear that someone had been smoking in the room. Besides, the mini-bar area had plenty of ants or little bugs. We pointed out to the reception staff who had accompanied us he offered to have the room thoroughly sprayed while we had a complimentary lunch. We said we’d prefer to see a new room, which he arranged. The second room did not small but also had the ants. In the end we refused the lunch as we were looking forward to hitting the beach and took the first room. Housekeeping did a thorough clean and the fact is that the bugs did not show up for the rest of the stay. This made us wondered why they do not systematically spray the rooms beforehand to avoid probems.

The beach by the deluxe rooms has thick vegetation which reaches the sea so you can use it for shade, on the other hand there are not so many sunny spots (although everyone managed to find one). In any case great beach and beautiful lagoon.

There are no real passages to access the reef and you need to swim out the water breakers out. In most areas this is quite tricky when the tide is low. However once you're there snorkeling was fantastic.

Food was nice although not spectacular and not great value, in any case we did enjoy our meals.

As many other reviewers have indicated the is quite some noise coming from the planes and sea planes taking off and landing in the nearby airport. It is not as quiet as the previous island we stayed in. I guess this is the price to pay for being ten minutes away by boat from the airport, which proved very convenient in our last day when we had a morning flight (and we could avoid spending the last night in Male).

We really enjoyed our stay but keep in mind that the island has a bit more of a resort feeling than smaller islands.

Picture this. You walk out of your beach bungalow - 20 yards and you are on delicate white sand where your own numbered sun lounger awaits. Another 10 yards and you are in the warm shallows of the lagoon. You put on your mask and snorkel and swim out to the edge of the lagoon seeing just a few curious fish along the way. As you swim through one of the breakwaters the sea gets a few degrees colder but you don't notice because you are mesmerized by the thousands of amazing species of fish swimming all around you. Even 6ft sharks which don't pay you much attention.
You return to your lounger where one of the staff hands you a chunk of pineapple or melon.
Then another swim maybe or a walk to the beach bar for a cocktail.
The choice of restaurants are amazing - really recommend Hamikaze - the Japanese on the water's edge. We eat at the Italian, seafood, Arabic and Jurumba cafe. All good.
A lot of people on here advise going all inclusive or opting for the Dinearound package.
We just had a good champagne breakfast every morning, an occasional shared sandwich mid-afternoon and a lovely dinner each night. Our average bill for two at night was about $170 - the Japanese was more expensive but worth it.
We went on the sandbar trip and were so well looked after by Akter who is the perfect host for a resort like this.
We did the beach dining experience with Hussein as our butler. He's a top man.
And we did the sunset fishing trip which was a bit disappointing and the only time during our week when we felt disappointed by the standard of service. It was run by kids who didn't engane with any of people on the trip. We didn't catch any fish either.
My only slight gripe is you are near to the airport and on the Saturday it got a bit noisy with continual take-offs.
We were in Room 236 which is on the "quieter" side of the island.
But the noise would not put me off from going again.
If you are reading this because you are about to head to Kurumba on holiday, you will have a great time. It's dreamland, paradise and perfection.

Room Tip: Go for the North of West of the island, closer to the lagoon.

As returning guests to the island (first time for our children) my husband and I knew what to expect in the way of food, staff friendliness, amenities, accommodation, etc. So what a wonderful surprise it was to find out we had received a complimentary room upgrade to the Royal Residence. Aischa, who welcomed us off the boat couldn't have been more friendly throughout the whole week. I would say that all of the staff on Kurumba are what make the island so special. Sumun, who looked after us during our stay in the Royal Residence was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The food was out of this world and the hardest part of the holiday was choosing which restaurant to dine in and what to have from the menus! We had a fantastic week including snorkelling, boat trips, water activities, spa, but our final day hiring the speed boat for the afternoon was the icing on the cake and rounded our fabulous holiday off perfectly. Our children, age 11 and 10 have said it's been the best holiday ever and can't wait to go back. Hopefully very soon!

Amazing property. Good setup. Very relaxing holiday. Staff is from different nationalities.

There are many restaurants. Service is good. Its a beautiful resort.

It is definitely on expensive side but you will only go there if you can afford it.

This hotel is truly amazing and the staff are outstanding nothing was too much trouble. The service from Fernando, Akator, Nissy and the lady at the Ocean Grill were wonderful. They remembered our names which was great considering how many other people there were on the island. Although the hotel was nearly 100% occupied it never felt like there were many people there. We went on an all inclusive package and my husband increased it to dine around, which was well worth the extra as the meals in all the restaurants were wonderful, unfortunately I have put on a bit of weight.

The sounds of the ocean meal with a butler was fantastic for my birthday. Our accommodation which was in a deluxe room was always very clean.

Thank you also to Justin (Resort Manager) who welcomed us when we arrived at the hotel and his wife who were very friendly.

Only one downside don't forget the insect repellant as I was bitten to pieces, also don't bother with the trip to Male as it was a waste of money, the tour guide wasn't great and it was dirty!

I recommend this hotel to everyone and although the airport is not far away its not that noisy.

Outstanding holiday thank you very much.

I had the most delightful honeymoon stay in Kurumba in June 2013. We came a day after our wedding and we were looking forward to a quiet resort with the right amount of activities and Kurumba fulfilled our needs.

We arrived late at night and we were welcomed with drinks and hot towels immediately. We took the superior room and lo behold it was huge for us both. I love how we could just chill out by the balcony facing the sea and I love how peaceful and serene it was there.

The only fault that I could possibly think of is probably the pillows which were a bit too soft for my liking. But other than that, I had the most perfect honeymoon here. The fishing trip, trip to Male, karaoke night, the spa, snorkeling. . . . I love it all.

Thank you Kurumba for the memories, awesome ones at that!

Kurumba has been everything we waited for and even more! Place is amazing and service is beyond words! All the 5 and 4 stars on this site are totally justified!
We directly booked through the resort and took only the stay and breakfast plan. This was a very good choice. Transfers to and from the airport take ten minutes and are perfect. Would definitely come back....
Highly recommended!
