“Wow!”
Reviewed October 30, 2007

We stayed in a deluxe bungalow during the 2nd week of October. We were in a great position on the island with our porch just seconds from the beachfront. Our main view was of deep blue sea and a couple of islands in the distance and to the left we could see Male'. I can understand why some people don't want to see that every day but for us the 'hustle & bustle' of boats going to and from the airport and large ships in the distance made the day more interesting. The lagoon really is the same turquoise colour that it appears to be in photos and it is like a luke warm bath. The fish swim along the shore line as do reef sharks and you can go beyond the reef walls and still the water is only shoulder deep before suddenly dropping off to the relatively deep reef areas.
The food was great, we highly recommend the Chinese restaurant Ming Court and the Ocean Grill. We loved going into the beach bar at lunchtime to get out of the sun for a couple of hours and have a tasty pizza, burger, salad or anything you like really - it's all good!
There are ponds around the reception area which are filled with petals. There are also smaller versions of these in the toilets!
The staff are extremely friendly and do what they can to help. A word of advice - if you desperately want to eat in a particular restaurant, do follow the resorts advice and make a reservation.

Overall we had a lovely relaxing holiday. We found the spa to be very expensive and not what we expected in terms of treatments - I was thinking of coconut, lemongrass etc you know, local things used in hand made scrubs, but it was just the sort of treatments you can get at home so we didn't bother, although it does look lovely.

The shops in the resort are nice, but pricey. We didn't go on any excursions, but heard that if you go to a local island you can barter for many of the same items and get them at a fraction of the price.

You do see a lot of sea planes and larger international flights coming in, but not to a level where it was irritating, but I can understand that if you want complete peace and quiet this may not be the island for you.

We couldn't find anything not to love about Kurumba and if there weren't so many other places to see we would be booking up to return next year!

We've stayed in Kurumba, Maldives for a week last year. The island was absolutely marvelous, the staff was very helpful, and food was amazing.
It was the best holiday I've ever had. I highly recommend this resort. The only thing with some people might find little disturbing is fact that this island is quite close to the main island and hence the airport. But as Maldives is no Heathrow we didn't mind at all.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a fantastic week stay in Karumba. We stayed in a delux room which was wonderful and on the best side of the island ( 235) the reason being that you looked out onto other islands rather than Male. We booked with Kioni and went half board which meant that we were tied to the buffet for breakfast and meals but this was not a bad experience as the food was great with lots of choice - the other restaurants on the island also looked fantastic - the Ocean Grill being the favourite. We ate lunch every day in the beach bar which was gorgeous - I recommend the gaspacho and lime daquiris !! The snorkelling at Karumba is fantastic if you swim out passed the barriers you can se the coral reef drop down into the ocean and there you will see reef sharks, parrot fish and loads more ! Karumba is the perfect place to stay if you want a relaxing five star experience in paradise . I cannot recommend enough the Sea Plane outing in which you spend a day exploring remote islands by plane and boat which are beautiful ! After we saw these islands we realised that we would prefer a more remote island however Karumba manged to get us hooked to the Maldives.

Had fantastic time in room 250... saw them build the outside shower left our hand prints but they pebbled over them the day we left! All staff amazing esp Ramblan who delivered to our room daily many times! Always with a smile. 3 rules we lived by whilst there... drink when we were thirsty... eat when we were hungry and sleep when we were tired!! no watches to be found and daquiri o'clock was invented!! Cant tell you what the restaurants were like we had room service most nights as it was so ideallic!! Take some candles, for the verandah and sit back drink eat and take it all in!...If you want to make some money take some size 11 shoes for all the staff, when you visit you will sit back and smile! Food amazing - try the fish and chips out of this world - in true 5 star fashion!!! beach ideallic, sharks not scary, sea cucumbers spit - can be messy! be wary! they look like bloomer loaves on the sea bed... broke all rules in first 24 hours... we had our alcohol taken off us at the airport - all 7 bottles of champagne - do not worry we got them back as we left! Your bags suitcases are searched!! Then I went topless - be careful do it discreetly - baps out o clock was also invented! I do hate white marks! All in all amazing place - and just "get Involved man" ! enjoy xx we are going back if that says anything!

Very nice place to go and relax but still have some good options for meals at night, we have just returned from 7 nights in a deluxe bungalow which was excellent. The room was lovely and the bathroom was fantastic, good choice of TV stations aswell (including ones that showed the premiership :-)

We chose here as we wanted to have a better choice of restaurants at night and it was great, the bar is really nice aswell.

We ate in nearly all the restaurants and the ocean grill was probably the best , the food overall was really nice in most places we didnt have a bad meal but be aware its quite expensive, we only drank water with our meals and every meal was between $70 and $110 just for the food so if you add wine to that it can be expensive.

A few people were full board we just did B&B and the breakfast was great , the evening full board meals looked good aswell and they did different options every night and most people said that it was always great.

The watersports are good we did parasailing (around $75 each) and this was good fun, take your own snorkel kits as this is great go to the house reef which is just off bungalow 190 and just outside of the wave break. It is amazing and you see all sorts of different fish, take your own underwater cameras we got two for £9 in boots and in the resort they were $20 each.

We went to the spa and had massages which were very good ($80 for 60 mins) you get to use the nicer gym and the jacuzzi etc for an hour before so its worth the money. The other gym is good aswell and we went there a few times, we also played tennis which is good fun and never busy.

Overall the holiday was great we went to Dubai for a week after Kurumba and only then really realised how relaxing Kurumba was, we werent bothered by the closeness to Male and the planes didnt bother us at all, if you want an island that has great snorkelling and still a choice of restaurants at night and the option of a gym etc then this place is perfect. Excellent place with nice people, take some home comforts if you want them though as there is no proper shop to talk about and you have the option of a minibar if you want a drink which can add up.

Would go back though as was really relaxing !!

What can I say - what a place. the staff, the food, the accommodation, the facilities where all perfect.

The staff - honest, friendly, discreet and nothing was too much trouble. Say hello to Sri for me who works in the Spa and run's a complimentry yoga session every day - what a star.

Top tip - take lots of single dollars with you for tips. The staff never once played the "tip card" but I have never been more willing to part with my money they deserved every penny.

The food - some of the best individual meals I have eaten everything was quality and everything was delicious. On two occasions either my wife or myself ordered a new dish to try which we didn't enjoy (our fault not the food's - as we don't really do a lot of fish) and on two occasions the meals were removed a replacement was bought out and we were only ever charged for the replacement - how good is that!!

Top tip with the dollar being week againsts the pound avoid going half board and pay for your meals out there (as everything is priced in US dollars). Average spend including drinks $80-120 for two people (2 course + wine).

The accommodation - perfect the only thing missing was a music system or DVD id you like that sort of thing.

Top tip take your computer with i-tunes and DVD player on.

Amenities - dive school - Eurodivers - top rate facility - Momo dive instructor was a great guys, they have high safety standards and I think it represents real value for money. Spa - wow the hot rock treatment was amazing -

Top tip - do everything you want to do because these prices are very reasonable and the facilties and equipment are top class.

Other top tips - take scuba gear, English three pin plugs are stanadard out there, if you fly Monach buy air pillows and anything else you can to try and make the journy more comfortable (not a great flight). Write to the Kurumba before you stay asking for a beach bungalow on the North of the island facing away from Male (160-210)

Finally I travel aot with my job but this suppassed every expectation I had - this is a quality operation.

We stayed at the Kurumba Maldives for a week at the beginning of September for our honeymoon and is was fantastic. The island is very clean and the staff are constantly maintaining the island which really does reflect well.

The staff are friendlt. The food is amazing. There are 7 restaurants inclusing italian, ocean grill, indian, chinese, lebanese, the main buffet restaurant and the coffee shop and beach bar which also serve good food. I highly recommend the Ocean Grill though and the Chinese.

The weather was a little mixed but it was still warm and relaxing and you are not bothered at all by anyone.

We stayed in a deluxe bungalow and had our own private bit of beach right outside our door! our room number was 157 and i would say one of the best situated bungalows. The bathroom is amazing and there is an outdoor rain shower which is fantastic! although watch out for the tiny lizards! they are hamless though.

All in all our stay was 5 star and i would definietly recommend it to anyone. Even though it is close to Male you still know you are in paradise!

10 out of 10!
