“Nicer LGA Airport Hotel”

I stayed here for four nights the end of October. I usually stay in Manhattan but prices were very high for Halloween weekend so I give the Hampton Inn a try. It was nicer than the Clarion LGA and the Comfort Suite in Maspeth where I have also stayed several times - typical Hampton Inn but nice lobby and large rooms. We had a room overlooking Flushing Bay and Queens - the odd number rooms on higher floors will give a partial Manhattan view. I'm not sure how parking is supposed to work, they gave me a parking pass for my window and didn't charge me for parking in the front lot which has limited space, but the garage between this and the hotel next door charges $15/night.

The "Pleasant" reviewer pretty much covered all the bases here but I would like to point out a correction in the other review. Yellow cabs will take you anywhere in NYC - while they may not like to but they have to. Be polite but firm. I lived in NYC most of my life and while they do not like driving to the outer boroughs they usually don't mind going to the airport since they can pick up a fare back to Manhattan.

The new Hampton Inn LGA has now been open for about 3 weeks. I stayed there this past week. Here are a couple comments for early visitors:

1) Business Center isn't functional yet <grumble>
2) Front desk is still learning. Somehow messed up while checking me in, lost my reservation. Redid it, but at the wrong rate. After we got that fixed, i thought all was good. The next morning, i had a bill under my door. I didn't notice that when she put the reservation back in, she only put it in for 1 night.
3) Wireless only works in the lobby. Rooms are wired only. They don't mention this on check-in.
4) Yellow cabs don't go there. It's gypsy cabs if you're trying to catch a ride from there, and they are about twice the cost of a yellow cab from LGA into Manhattan.
5) Not their fault, but taxis can't find it. Just something to be aware of. The LGA Marriott is across the street, and all cabs seem to know where that is.
6) Lost hot water tuesday by 7am....Luckly i was up early. Waited an hour, and all was good again. Not sure if they ran out or if there was a problem.
7) I heard them tell another guest that they didn't care if he smoked in the non-smoking room. Guessing that's just front desk inexperience, but bah....
8) They were still doing construction on at least some floors. Really drives me crazy when hotels are drilling and hammering before 8am. So much for a good night's sleep.

That's about it. As everything's new, the rooms, lobby, etc. are nice. I said that yes, i'd recommend it to a friend, but only because I believe it will eventually be a nice property as they fix their issues. However, the lack of yellow cabs or any other easy way to get into manhattan is a real downside.

Stayed at the Hampton Inn LaGuardia as I had an early morning flight and the mid-town hotels were at high price for the one night I needed to stay over in NYC. Price I got was reasonable comparatively, but I booked about a month ahead. A hghrise hotel, it is new and well placed. They provide a shuttle (shared with the Crown Plaza - so look for the Crown Plaza markings on the vehicles), but the hotel is a very short walk from the USAir Terminal - just cross the bridge and turn left - it's right there! Rooms are Hampton Inn style, but new and have expected amenities- flat screen TV and Internet in each room (no charge!). Breakfast room is very pleasant, but offerings are somewhat sparse compared to other Hampton Inns I've stayed in. Front desk staff very pleasant and accommodating. Neighborhood is mostly private homes, with little or no eateries about (there is a restaurant in Crowne Plaze, next door). Front desk staff provide menus for local take-out places that deliver. If staying near LaGuardia due to flights, recommend this pleasant HI.
