“Family with teenage daughter and friend”
Reviewed July 26, 2007

We stayed in July, the rooms had all the basic things you needed in the rooms, enough towels for the four of us and even had little soaps and little containers of lotion and shampoo if needed. They had a fridge and coffee pot also. We stayed five days and kept our clothes in the suitcases, why bother unpacking and packing again. There was a door mat inside the door, and the room seemed freshly painted. It seemed to be updated; paved sidewalks, pool was in great shape, with new bricking around the pool. My kids were 14 and 15, old enough to be out of my sight and walk across the country road between the buildings, it was not a highly used road. We had arm bands to go into the Zoom Flume park as much as we wanted, the kids went several times. They enjoyed the pool and learned how to play tennis, also.
In the evening we listened to the Kareoke singers for awhile, we didn't have the nerve to get up ourselves. One night my husband and I sat at the outside fire til 11 pm. The last night we were there, my daughter and I learned how to play bocce, she got farther then me in the competition.
The resort was half the prices of the other resorts in the area that I checked into. We did go Horseback riding one day at a nearby stable,at a discounted price because we were staying at the resort. Why stay at the ranches that cost twice as much, since we only rode once. We also got half price tickets to Cooperstown baseball hall of fame, and I used my triple AAA card at the Howe Caverns, How neat they were to see.
It is made very clear that you pay the cost of the bill when you get there, Most other places we have been to do the same, Ocean city Maryland condo's for the week and Best Western in Mystic Seaport Connecticut, for example.
The room was clean, when we got there, and the food was good. Always had alot to eat, appetizers at supper, deserts, and a choice of 3-4 entrees, which also came with salads if you wanted. Breakfast was made to order, like eggs, french toast, omelets, etc. I do not drink alcohol, but they made virgin pina coladas for me, and my husband had rum and diet coke. We aren't big drinkers.
Yes, the area was not very rich , no high tech industry in the area for people to work at. The only day we went anywhere was to Cooperstown and Howe Caverns, there were lots of beautiful mountain scenery and farmlands to enjoy. The one rainy day we had, the girls rented a DVD player and watched some movies they brought along for the 3 1/2 car ride up.

Stayed the weekend before Labor Day. A two bedroom suite for my family of four came out at about $425 a night. Way too much for this place. We had one rainy day and the water park was closed so it was a ridiculously expensive stay. Housekeeping is a problem. The room had someone else’s hair in clumps on the bathroom floor. Also there are no welcome mats to wipe your feet (in our room at least) so everything outside comes in. The food - OK (I'm always dieting anyway and my expectations were low). The bar had no top shelf booze. The place is really a small motel with a great pool. The water park is good for the under 12 set for a day or two tops. That makes this a far drive from NYC for a one night stay. Also don't book unless you’re sure to have nice weather. There is nothing to do at the "resort" or within an hours drive on a rainy day.

After reading the only review on this website I was a bit skeptical about going to the Country Place Resort however we decided to do it anyway. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The room is a typical Catskill room nothing fancy but clean and acceptable. we had a 2 bedroom suite big enough for a family of six.
The food was good also. Breakfast is made to order anything you would like. The biggest hit were the chocolate chip pancakes! At breakfast you are given a menu for dinner. You generally have 4-5 entrees to pick from as well as the kids had all the typical kids meals to choose from. The kids could order the adult meals if they choose. We had a great steak one night and the desserts are all homemade and delicious.
We choose to take advantage of the are attractions in the mornings and the water park in the afternoon. It would out great and made everyone happy.
There are evening activities ranging from pony rides to karaoke and such.
The last morning we were given an envelope to leave a tip fpr the servers. We left what we felt we would have paid in tips had we eaten out 2 meals a day for a week. We didn't feel pressured to leave any specific amount.
All in all I have to say that we had a good time. We did meet a family who has been going there for 19 years!!! It was worth the 4 1/2 hour ride.

Stayed here in July. Rooms are VERY basic (tho they describe them as 'deLuxe!) with no shower gel / lotion etc, very, very tiny scratchy towels (no proper bath towels) no plug in bath, only 6 coat hangers provided, and most of the bottoms were falling out of most of the drawers. There were holes in the walls & ceilings & in general the rooms needed a lot of work to bring them up to standard.

Worst of all was the very poorly maintained paving throughout, and broken rails in the swimming pool! Everywhere you walked, the tiles were coming adrift & you had to be very careful indeed - the place needs urgent maintenance work. The pool entry rails were almost adrift from the side - very dangerous indeed.

It is billed as a Family Resort but it is bisected by a road! Not a major highway but nevertheless a road on which cars travel quite fast - rooms are one side, restaurant & facilities another, with no crossing. I could not let my kids out of my sight.

Misleading brochure info makes it sound as if entry to the Zoom Flume Waterpark is free - in fact you get to go free once.

Staff are nice but you are pressurized into tips - envelopes left with 'suggested minimum gratuity of $4 per day' per person.

Food is plentiful and the desserts are good if you like stodgy, calorie laden, but other courses are pretty dire - food is chock full of salt and MSG. It was almost impossible to get a glass of wine.

The area is seedy - it is on the edge of the Catskills but really in the run-down 'Irish' quarter where the houses are often falling apart & there is nothing worth seeing - unless you want to get a taste of what poor America looks like. We so much wished we'd gone to New Paltz instead.

The resort is not cheap, either, tho they seem to think it is. They make you pay the full price as soon as you get there - 1st time we have ever had this in 30 years of hotel stays - but we could see why, as if we had not had to do so we would DEFINITELY have gone elsewhere even though it would have lost us our deposit.
