We had a great view of the lake from our room. We were on the third floor, no elevator so a lot of steps to carry luggage up. The inn is old, but in great shape considering. They had canoes and kayaks available for your use. The restaurant had very good food. Breakfast buffet was okay. No cell service but they allowed us to use their phone as needed. We really enjoyed our stay.

Big Moose Inn.
I just want to be clear on this. I read some of the reviews and thinking to myself it is an Inn, not a fancy 4 or 5 Stare hotel but an Inn. I really enjoyed my time there and had a wonderful relaxing weekend. The property itself is very cozy. Yes it is old and maybe warn down but what do you expect? well do not expect too much, that is the purpose of it. It is like going to your own cabin in the summer to relax and enjoy the simple life. It is what it is, it is in the middle of no where by a beautiful lake and surrounded by wilderness. The area is breath taking. Besides why would you complain about the rooms when you are outdoors all the time. They offer free Kayaking boats and a Canoes. Next door they rent all sorts of boats. You get to hike and breath the fresh air. I have been in NYC too long I forgot what clean air smells like.
The view from our room was gorgeous. I can not describe it because it is worth going there for a couple of days to relax and unwind.

I have to congratulate Mark the owner for doing such a great job. We dined at his restaurant during our stay and we loved the food. Maybe it is not a Michelin rated restaurant but believe me his food is better than some of restaurants in Manhattan that were even rated by Zagat. you will not be disappointed. While we were there I saw lots of people who were not staying at the Inn were coming to dine in his restaurant. you require a reservation because he is always busy and packed.

Also if you are looking for a fun night just hit the bar. Tony a cool ozzy bartender will keep you entertained and fun to talk to. the food at the tavern is great too.

I highly recommend to go there and relax and enjoy nature for what it is.

Thank you Big Mosses Inn for a lovely stay and hopefully I will be back for the winter season.

Big Moose Inn is situated on a beautiful lake just outside of the town of Inlet. We were on a motorcycle trip through the Adirondacks and stayed for two nights.

We rented the jacuzzi suite room, which had a comfortable bed, but was otherwise very sparsely furnished, and the only chair was an oversized stylized one that wasn't very comfortable. The building itself was very old and run down - worn carpets, no real sound insulation between rooms (we could hear our neighbor snoring all night, and the next night had a family - or a herd of elephants - above us and could hear every footstep, the TV, and radio all at once), and definitely not the luxury experience the website might have one believe. The tub was great, and shower worked well, although the towels were very small.

We had dinner in the dining room that night - very friendly service, and good food - but the dining room was loud, with larger groups of folks becoming quite tipsy and shouting at the top of their longs. This continued well into the night, with drunk party-goers (either guests or visitors from around the area, not sure) shouting and laughing right outside our window until the vacuum cleaner went on at 11pm and seemed to encourage them to leave. The next night we ate in the tavern - Craig, the bartender, was so friendly and kind - and it seemed a little less hectic. In the tavern a bigger and more diverse menu is offered than the dining room, with excellent burgers and specials. All in all, the food and drink menu was the best part of the Inn.

Except - the breakfast. It's what you'd get at a Super 8 motel - sugary cereals (we had granola but it was very sugary also), some sort of cold pastry, and small containers of yogurt, and makings for toast and such with a single toaster on the table. We opted to go into Inlet the second morning and have breakfast there!

Unfortunately, the run-down condition, the noise from vacationers bent on drinking late into the night, and the general lack of soundproofing really means this is NOT the place to go if you want a quiet, relaxing Adirondack setting in which you can wind down. It's a great place to go if you want to party with a large group of friends, though, as long as you don't need quiet to sleep.

Overall not worth what they charge, in our opinion, but we did appreciate the friendly dining staff and the use of the watercraft (excellent hikes and paddle routes in abundance).

Room Tip: If you book here, and want quiet, ask for a room not facing the lake - most of those rooms overlook...

Ummm, very small rooms, hotel made of wood is 110+ years old. Walls so thin that you can hear everything (everything!) in the next room. Good full bar. Helpful bartender. Room for 3 kids with a 3rd bed was too small. Breakfast mediocre. Restaurant reasonable.

We spent a travelzoo voucher weekend at the Inn and were very disappointed in the accommodations. Our room, a queen lake view, had not been renovated in at least 40 years. Old worn carpets, dated, sparsely furnished room, tea towel sized bath towels and thin walls were the most annoying part of the room. There were no bedside tables, no where to put luggage, and a 12 inch TV. The Big Moose could be great if only the owners would spend some money upgrading the basics. I would not stay here again nor would I recommend a friend to stay here. However, the shining spot was the restaurant. We had a great meal, and throughout the weekend had excellent service from all the staff, from the bar tender to the servers. I wish it would have been a better experience as the surrounding area of the adirondack mountains was beautiful.

Room Tip: Apparently there are some renovated king bed rooms. If you stay here, be sure to book one.

My husband and I just returned from spending the weekend at the Big Moose Inn. It is beautifully located on Big Moose Lake, with easy access for kayaking, swimming, or boating. The food was delicious, and the restaurant staff were all very friendly. Now for the not so good...the Inn itself is "worn", not rustic. We stayed in room 15 , and definitely would not recommend it. It was outdated, hot, and very noisy! Some of the other rooms did appear to be in better condition. We also were disappointed that the continental breakfast was only available starting at 8 am, and very limited; lacking any fresh fruit! Overall, we enjoyed ourselves , and would return, with upgrading to a King room.

Room Tip: King Rooms were nicest!

This was the perfect place to visit with family and friends! We wanted to bring our friends traveling from Germany to the Adirondacks to enjoy some of the natural beauty the United States has to offer. We are so happy that we chose Big Moose! The owners of the Inn are friendly, accommodating, offering above and beyond service!! Each morning started out with a lovely continental breakfast on the porch. We enjoyed the use of canoes and kayaks,(included in our stay) and hiking at its finest. Dinner at the Big Moose Inn was fabulous! Please read restaurant reviews, the food is truly delicious...a pleaser for everyone! We enjoyed evening views from the porch and camp fires in front of the Big Moose Lake under starry skies. We even had the pleasure one evening of a Scottish bag pipe player playing " Amazing Grace" under the moon lit sky. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to return some day!

Room Tip: Simple, comfortable rooms with a gorgeous view in room 19! We had 10 people in our party and stayed...
