When we arrived, my first thought was "This is exactly what I need: peace and quiet." Unfortunately, if you desire quiet at breakfast, you won't find it here. Our host, Steve, seemed to think that guests sitting quietly around the breakfast table meant that he should fill in with an endless stream of conversation filled with more information about him, his family and his business than most strangers would care to hear. I would also disagree with other guests who found the breakfast offering to exceed the food offered elsewhere. If your preference is for muffins, cake breads and store bought pastry - you are in luck. The table is laden with this kind of food. If you like packaged breakfast sausage - it was offered every day we were there. If you want something interesting and tasty - you should take Steve' s often repeated joke and eat elsewhere. But more upsetting was the fact that our car broke down and we were turned in to "Steve dependents" First he said we could use his wife's car, then he said we could use his truck. He renegged on both offers when we said we needed to get to town to check on the car and drive home: no taxis, no public transportation. He said he thought there was a limo service. I said I didn't have cash on me to pay for a limo. He said "That's waht ATMs are for." Then Steve said he had a secret surprise for us. I don't know about the rest of you, but when my car breaks down and I have to be back at work the next day, I like to be an adult and know how things will be resolved. Steve kept saying that we would soon know what the surprise was...unfortunately the hours ticked on by. I began to think "Twilight Zone" When I finally said we were going to try to hitch a ride into town from a passerby and would like to leave our luggage there, Steve became downright peevish about his surprise. He said he would drive us to town, but it was clear he was mad. So much so that he pulled off the road to speak to a man from another motel who owns a "limo". I overheard the man say he didn't know Steve and he didn't know anything about giving us a ride. (This seemed believable since he was several hours late according to Steve's original information to us and the man was busy cleaning his own motel.) This only encouraged Steve to embellish his story. Now he said that it was his intention to pay for us to have a limo ride, if only we hadn't been so unreasonable and impatient. I say being around Steve is anything but relaxing. Home never looked so good.
