This was a great find in Deposit NY- 10 miles from Hancock NY. The menu has a great variety of choices including fish, fowl, beef, or vegetarian. Pleasant ambiance. Reasonable prices. Altogether a good place.

I've given Koo Koose Grille 5 stars because owner Steve has brought quality culinary to an otherwise bleak region. Not that I don't love Deposit, but it has had its hard times and it shows. We have had a vacation home in Deposit for about 12 years now and one of the biggest draw backs was finding decent food in the evening. For years we would brave the trip to Bluestone in Hancock or Chestnut at Oquaga, but they were both inconsistent in their hours and quality. We have eaten at Koo Koose about a dozen times now, both lunch and dinner. I always try a place a few times before I would take the time to review it.
. Koo Koose keeps a small but exciting menu of eclectic flavors. Steve seems to favor his gravies and sauces and we enjoy them as well. From the comfort foods of meatloaf and mac'n'cheese to the more exciting veal and prawn dishes everything has been good to great. A very limited (but not just traditional) wine and beer list. Many of the menu choices are from local farms when available. Chef/Owner Steve greets and seems to care for every customer who comes in. Quaint,,completely unpretentious atmosphere, you would expect hash and eggs by the first impression, but you will be pleasantly surprised by the food. Fine for dinner with the wife, lunch with mom or even bring the kids before a movie. If I could change anything, I would want a slightly bigger/better wine list, and we would usually have a martini before dinner, and there is only wine and beer. That said, we are so happy that Steve has opened here.

This chef owned restaurant is a pleasant surprise. It is small with an interesting décor. The menu doesn't have a major theme but offers something for everyone. There was also a large specials menu on the Friday night that we visited. We ordered our meal from the specials menu and were not disappointed. The New England clam chowder was packed with clams and the tenderloin wild mushroom stroganoff was delicious - comfort food. This chef pays attention to freshness and availability of ingredients as several regular menu items were not available on the night we visited. This is much appreciated by us. Service is attentive but not overbearing.

Don't be fooled by the exterior appearance. I was apprehensive about town and the restaurant, but food was great and chef was very personable and welcoming. A lot of vegan and gluten free choices. Great meat and fish options all very well prepared. Not sure why it is listed as French cuisine - definitely more of a new American menu but there are a few southwesten choices and Italian choices. Great wine options and desserts too. Don't hessitate to try it!
