The Hidden Cafe in Delmar has been on our popularity list for ages. But, unfortunately, we haven't been able to visit for some long months. Since our last visit the restaurant has changed hands, but I think you can say not by much. The new owners have been with The Hidden Cafe for many years and have retained all of the best and, I believe, changed only what needed to be changed.
The atmosphere remains friendly, neat, and welcoming. It is just fine for a relaxed evening out or a romantic treat.
The menu features Mediterranean inspired cuisine and includes a satisfactory range of options including beef, lamb, and seafood. Many are Greek-inspired.
I had a grilled sirloin that was one of the best I have ever had. It was perfectly prepared and featured grilled asparagus and wonderfully spiced potato pieces. My dining partner had a superbly prepared mahi mahi. We were both pleased that the portions were just right, not too big, not too small.
A singular treat is their warm pita that arrives at the table with herbed olive oil. I know, every Greek-Med restaurant serves pita. But The Hidden Cafe must do some sort of magic because it much better that we have had elsewhere.
First-time visitors must be aware that the restaurant really is a bit hidden. Go to the back right corner of the Hanneford Plaza. Look for the signs. You can't miss it.
