This is a beautiful park located on the Hudson river. We went on a weekend and it was $10 a car to get in.
The parking is a bit far from the beach however you can pull up and unload. There is a large grassy tree area on one side of the water for picnics. The beach extends out from there into the harbor. There are two sections of the beach closer to the grassy area that are roped off for swimming with lifeguards. The remaining long stretch of beach is walk-able but swimming is prohibited.
Much of the beach area is tree lined so it's easy to get a shady spot a little further back from the water. The water edge has a gradual drop and then stays at standing height all the way out to the ropes. The floor of the swimming area has an odd soft texture to it that feels like a moss carpet.
This place is near perfect with the exception of two things. There are sand fleas in the beach areas that are shaded under the trees. I had to use bug repellent to deter them from biting. The other thing is the murky river water. It seemed clean...no debris, etc... but it's pretty muddy.
Overall, it was a fun day and my family had a blast in the water.
