Owner description: Explore the stone manor house and brick ferry house, wander through the heritage gardens, and stroll down a quiet country road along the Croton River. There, you'll experience the domestic life of a patriot family living in the years just after the American Revolution - the New Nation period. Site is open for tours on weekends during July and August. Property also hosts the popular events LIGHTSCAPES in the spring and the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze in the fall.

Van Cortlandt Manor is a Manor of a wealthy family that lived in the area during during the time of the revolution. The tour takes you in the house, around the grounds and over to the Inn where people would stay as they traveled up and down the Hudson. It is a nice tour. The person I had was very knowledgeable. The tour lasted an hour and there are stairs to climb to get into the house. It is a great tour to learn how people of wealth lived years ago. If you are into history you may find this interesting.

This is a true sample of life in the Hudson Valley as it existed in years past. Tour guides are informative and the experience brings to life the lifestyles, hardships, and challenges facing the early settlers

When I lived in New York, I would go to the Jackolantern Blaze every single year, and it got more and more incredible each time. Thousands of jackolanterns carved into life-sized dinosaur skeletons, UFOs, graveyards, oceans, basically anything you can imagine, but with glowing pumpkins. Totally worth the trek, even if you live in the city (I did.) The Twelfth Night celebration is also really fun! The historical aspects of it are great, and the tour was silly and fun. They serve hot cider (heated with a metal rod), and embarrass you by making you dance in front of strangers. Definitely a great tour!

Van Cortlandt Manorwas the family home of the Van Cortlandt family, the Dutch settlers that owned much of the land between Croton and Connecticut. The home and grounds have been restored to their 18th century splendor and serve as a living museum illustrating the life and times of the landed aristocracy. While the Manor is worth visiting at any time, events celebrating Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas make visiting Van Cortlandt Manor at these times a special treat. Make your reservations early. They are often booked up.
