“Pet Friendly - Good basic place to stay”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

Stayed here last weekend while visiting SUNY Cortland. Good baic room, nothing too fancy. Clean, decent beds and basic breakfast offerd with the room. Best thing was the managment was really nice and helpfull. Allowed us to have a 3pm late check out so our dog had a place to stay while we toured the college. Again very clean, not just for pet friendly, in general. Also got a real good rate by calling hotel directly.

The hotel has a main entrance near the desk and a rear entrance that faces the highway. Unfortunately the rear entrance is not locked and anyone (hotel key or not) can walk in. The rear parking area was not well lit. I felt uncomfortable staying there with my teenage daughter but we had already made reservations and it was late at night. Breakfast was okay. Rooms were older. I usually count on comfort inn for an inexpensive place to stay but was not happy with safety issues here.

I would like to thank you for posting your feedback from your recent stay with us. We are currently going through renovations and will be addressing the doors, security and lighting in the near future. We will be installing atleast one or 2 key swipes for guest security and possibly adding panic bars to all the doors for enhanced security. Thanks, Drew Clare 607-753-7721.

The hotel was good but breakfast was not the best. I stayed only for one night, the room and the bed was comfortable but the furniture was a little old. The hotel does not have an elevator so be ready to walk up with your bags if you like rooms on higher floor (They only have 2 floors I believe). The rooms are good as they were furnished with microwave and refrigerator. The Front desk staff was kind and helpful but the breakfast didn't seem that fresh. The apples did not seem good, it is good according to the price.

Yes it is true, it's not the Ritz. What do you expect?? We were a block of 20 rooms with 15year old boys in town for a state hockey tournament. We were welcomed with smiles and clean, renovated guest rooms. Bathrooms are not renovated yet but clean fresh sheets and beds! Hallways still have a smoke odor but I believe that will be changing soon too. Management allowed our team and parents to have meeting and catered meals in their lounge area. Hot full breakfasts were great! Scrambled eggs, bacon, bagels, oatmeal , cereals, yogurts, fruit and more! Great bonus! Great, affordable choice for budget travelers. ask for Drew, he will be glad to assist you!

This hotel is well below standard. The halls stink of smoke and the other people staying there were pretty squirrelly. Someone else made my reservation (and was paying for the room) so even though from the outside it looked like hell I thought I'd check it out. My worst fears were realized just walking through the hall to the room. I checked out and paid for my own room at the Hampton Inn up the street. That's how bad it is. I wouldn't stay there for free. More expensive but MUCH MUCH MUCH better. Avoid the comfort inn at all costs.

While visiting family in Ithaca we stayed here for one night, as all the local hotels had been booked up. Check-in was normal, but the moment we opened the door we were knocked back by the smell... it was horrendous! the only way to describe it is B.O. I'm not saying this is an accurate reflection of the rest of the rooms, but it was unacceptable for even one room! we immediately called the front desk and asked for another room, but were told none were available, but they would bring dissinfectant spray. The nice woman came to the room very quickly- and proceeded to spray the walls and our bags, the tv, and the pillows we brought from home. She was trying to be helpful, but it was a crazy scene.... that did help, but throughout the evening it kept creeping back up, and we'd have to spray again. To be fair, the bed wasn't bad and we slept quite well. in the morning we woke up to rays of light shining through the numerous little holes in the curtains. When we checked out we mentioned the smell to the clerk but she offered no apology, and seemed to not realize what I was saying- maybe she was embarrased, who knows...
the one thing that bothered us even more than all that was the fact that the doors leading in from the parking lot, on the back of the building, had no security at all- just wide open, I didnt even see any locks. Anyone could have wandered in off the highway.... it was scary. Unfortunately, i just couldn't possibly recommend this hotel .. try the Holiday Inn Express next door.

We booked the Comfort Inn in Cortland because it was midnight and we were too tired to keep driving. We are loyal to the Choice Hotels brand and their points system. The 800 number helped us find the hotel, but I wanted to see it before we booked. The lobby was a good size and had a sunken lounge room, with a big fireplace like a lodge. There were no business computers available, so we had to call the 800 number again to actually book, since you can only get points through the website or 800 number. We were given a king suite on the second floor. Unfortunately, there is no elevator and that is difficult when you've got a few things to lug up. The second floor, which seemed to be mostly non-smoking rooms, had a distinct "smoking odor." When we got to our room, there was no problem. The room was fresh and clean. A very generous size, with a separate sofabed and large table. There was plenty of room here, there could easily have been a refrigerator and microwave which are often found in these suites. We were only spending the night, so it didn't matter much. Even though Route 81 was outside our window, we did not hear any noise overnight! The night manager had given us a coupon for a discounted breakfast at the attached Perkins restaurant, but we did not need it. The hotel has recently upgraded their breakfast to be a more complete, hot breakfast. There were scrambled eggs & sausage, two flavors of waffles, coffee, juices, bagels, toast, yogurt, and a whole host of the usual continental breakfast selections. It was very generous and suited us fine. It looks like some remodeling is being done, and hopefully the breakfast items will be altogether on one side of this huge lounge area instead of all around the room. To make this a better hotel, I would recommend a few things: 1) Install an elevator 2) Get a PC for guest use 3) Improve ventilation in hallways 4) Fix lounge area/breakfast room to be more efficient 5) Consider adding a swimming pool

Room Tip: Book early; it was surprising how full the hotel was considering that college was out of session.
