“The Best Utica Greens”
Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

Been trying Utica greens all over CNY this year, by far hairy Tony's had the best! Dishes were pretty good until it came to the nachos, it's like they put canned tomatoes on instead of salsa, just terrible. The waitress said they make there own salsa, but no way was this anything resembling salsa/pico. No offer to fix dish or bring out fresh salsa. Don't thnk we'll go back there.

“A Kickbutt place for great beer and incredible food”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

This was a shot in the dark for us as we headed back to PA from salmon fishing and what a great stop. It's a bit different walking in as it really is a bar type atmosphere but get on in and get a seat. Their beer selection is perfect, lots of good ones, all priced well. We had calamari to start off and it smoked most others I had in the past. It was meaty, not a lot of breading, and done perfectly. Our meals were again worthy of a well done chief, spot on. I made sure this one is in the GPS because it will become a regular stop on the way back from the lake. Parking is a bit difficult but this place is worthy of a few drives around the block until you find a spot.

“Adventure's in Cortland”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

My husband and I came to Cortland for Jet's training camp and what a weekend we had, in large part due to Tony, the owner at Hairy Tony's. We found our hang out spot from the first minute. Friday night we went in for dinner as we had heard the Jet's hang out there. We met Tony and a new friend was quickly made. Food was excellent. Love the roasted beets and snap pea risotto. Lobster and shrimp kabob were OK considering it's hard to get excellent fish so far away from the ocean. Husband had the local grass fed beef (which was only .50 cents more). Local beer was excellent. Especially enjoyed Cortland Naked Lager. We came back for lunch and dinner the next day. Especially enjoyed the grilled veggie pizza. All the servers were fantastic especially Steph, Erica and Naomi. But the atmosphere....oh the atmosphere!!! Fun, laughter, it was easy to be there....and we found the Jet's that I have to say were completely gracious and friendly. Tony, you gotta know we will be back!!!!!!!

“This is the adult version of the college bar next door (same owner)”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

+ points for trying but the execution is routinely disappointing. What do you expect? They hire college students for servers and cooks (bravo for helping support the student population) but they don't "get it", as far as the expectations from patrons who know what truly good service and food should be. Let's face it, Hairy Tony's is a college town bar for adults; students can go to the Dark Horse next door - but they are the same place run by the same owner. Service is crap and while the menu offers some enticing dishes that make it appear they are trying to emulate a higher class of restaurant, what you get will leave no doubt that real cooking should be left to the professionals.

Hey, the burgers are great! The salad wraps were fairly good. Hairy Tony's offers a raw bar, and interestingly have a raw bar cart outside on the sidewalk. I'll just say that we arrived before the onslaught of the normal dinner crowd but once the place filled up our server was only a blur that ignored our existance. We also did not appreciate being scolded for not dipping bread into the sauce for the steamed clams. If the sauce was supposed to be a premier selling point, please inform me ahead of time so I may enjoy it rather than afterwards so that I can only be disappointed. After acknowledging our desire to pay the tab we waiting nearly 20 more minutes only to have the bill tossed at our table. There is definately an apeal here for locals who don't travel outside the area but if you're visiting Cortland accept it for what it is - an adult version of a college bar.
