This was our first visit to this establishment. Upon entering we sat at the bar. The bar tender had no one else at the bar, yet it took him 5 minutes to come over and ask if we wanted a drink. My wife asked for coffee, and he just laughed quite rudely and said coffee was not even on yet! OK then a Perrier water please - no ice...he came back with warm Perrier and proceeded to fill the glass with ice which defeats the rational of having French mineral water! He had not ensured the stock was in the cooler so she had warm water! The place appears to have way too much bar space and a smaller seating area, we were then seated at our table. The food and server were pretty good and I found the selection of appertizers I had to be fresh and different, although very much on the expensive side. We ordered a bottle of wine and sat for 10- 15 minutes waiting for it to be served. We then ate and I was asked if I wanted an after dinner drink. So I ordered a very old port at $25/Glass. However after 15 minutes it still had not arrived so we cancelled and left. So the only major problem I see is the bar tender, rude, slow and to be honest dressed like someone who just walked in off the street, not a good first impression at all and could even be a cause for folks not to return. Otherwise food is good and service was very good although with a lot of open areas and empty bar space a little lacking in atmosphere..

Great food, great atmosphere. You'll pay a little more than at competitors, but you'll get a lot more.

Recently expanded...great wine choices, beer selection and trendy atmosphere. Owner Jason put this thing together after years of travel and incorporated his own niche in the Crystal City. You won't be disappointed.

Came in alone, early in the week, kinda early in the evening. You can tell a lot about a place both when they're busy and when they're not.

First. Being alone was not a problem and service was attentive without cloying.

Second. Food (tapas items: paella, then potstickers) was fab. Exactly the right spicy (you know it, but you're not scared), exactly the right quantity (not too much).

Third. Goofy music that I never heard of and was accessible and fit the place to a T.

Conclusion: a gem in the making.

The Cellar serves interesting and novel "small plates" and imaginative cocktails. We were surprised by the quality and integrity of the things on the menu. The restaurant is spacious, but the number of dining seats is pretty limited. Service is excellent. Atmosphere is informal (but not loutish). Overall a most enjoyable experience.
