I gave Three Birds a five because it met every one of our expectations last evening. We wanted something more upscale than other locally owned restaurants, with a comfortable bar, a pretty restaurant, fabulous martinis and great food. We were not disappointed. We called earlier in the day to ask them to reserve two spots for us at the bar at 6:30p. We found a parking spot right out front and ordered a couple of interesting martinis. One of the main goals of the evening was to take our time and relax, and the bartender, Charity, got that immediately. We placed our order, and she slowly over the course of a couple of hours brought us our food, all of which was extraordinary. First, we had warm, substantive, delicious bread with olive oil, Parmesan or Asiago cheese, and spices with our drinks. We decided to share everything, so asked that everything come out one at a time. After about a half hour, and just on time, our soup arrived -- a creamy spinach and sun-dried tomato extravaganza -- hot and absolutely scrumptious. A while later, our toasted corn and Chesapeake crab cake came, served with sizzled spinach and a classic remoulade. Finally, apple-wood-smoked-bacon-wrapped shrimp in orecchiette, feta, spinach, and dry vermouth sauce was served. Wow. This guy can really cook. It was all beyond expectations.

The bartender had an intuitive sense of when to interrupt. It was perfect. The other diners on this Saturday night were in the age range from 30's to 60's, and everyone pretty much kept to themselves, which suited us perfectly. The dining room was full the whole night, and they turned away many people who didn't have reservations.

We will definitely be visiting "Three Birds" again when we come back to Corning. Great meal. Low price. Relaxing evening. Perfect.

Found this gem while staying in Corning. We were looking for something a little upscale - delighted to find Three Birds. The restaurant is tucked in two old store fronts which were joined and refurbished with the bar on one side and restaurant on other. The atmosphere is warm cozy yet funky elegant. Faux finished walls and paintings by a local artist give the place an interesting vibe.
The wine list has nice variety including some NY selections. Menu features enough choices to satisy every palate, and the chef offers daily specials.
We took our server's recommendation, and I ordered the scallops while my partner tried the hanger steak. We started off with locally grown baby greens salads - mine featured one of the best balsamic vinegrettes I've had in a while. My partner had a berry salad which included raspberries, blueberries and strawberries on the greens. Finished in a peach vinegrette, the whole thing was topped off with feta cheese. It was delicious. The entrees arrived in a timely fashion, and my lightly sauced and sauteed scallops were artfully arranged around a small bed of steamed chard - which still had some crispness to it. the combination of the scallop and chard was incredible. Perfect balance. My partner reported that the hanger steak was cooked perfectly - tender. Sauce was really nice. The portions were spot on, and we had room for dessert.
Our server listed many choices, and we opted for the Chocolate Pate -whose name does not even begin to reflect the the sinful sensation it left in our mouths. A combo of dark and milk chocolate and amaretto - topped with a berry sauce and creme fraiche - rasperries and a sprig of mint.
Our server was extremely knowledgeable, accomodating and professional - as all of the staff seemed to be. Next trime I come to Corning, it won't be to see the glass.
Reservations are highly recommended - the place was busy.

Wow!! This restaurant is amazing! The instant we walked in we were sat and withing a couple of minutes a kid about 16 maybe 17 walked over and began preforming the best magic i have seen in my entire life. It was confusing to me that people were not coming to the restaurant for the soul purpose to see him! The whole staff is completely non intrusive and very informative. Best night i have had in a long time. Going to Three Birds is not just dinner, its an event.

Food was okay but nothing to write home about. Quite bland and sauces very watery. Presentation definitely lacking. Atmosphere very dark and dismal. Wine served by the glass was a minimal serving. An ounce or two more would have been nice.
