“Charming spot in Cooperstown”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

My husband and I, along with my 81 year old father, just spent 5 days in Cooperstown to watch our son play in a baseball tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park. We stayed at the Otesaga the first night (before my arrival), but we moved to The Inn at Cooperstown for the remainder of the trip because the Otesaga was not available...wow, how lucky are we? Our first and only nigth at the Otesaga was a disaster (bad room, poor service and very expensive--see our separate review) and several of our friends who stayed there for the week had similarly poor experiences. We were, indeed, the lucky ones as The Inn at Cooperstown is an absolute delight. The historic structure really makes you feel as if you have gone back in time, yet everything is very updated. They have wireless internet and flat screens in all the rooms. The rooms are nicely appointed and quite clean. The staff is unbeatable...friendly and always smiling. My two favorite things, however, were the front porch and the morning muffins....The front porch is lined with rocking chairs and you will find yourself wanting to sit there all day....quite relaxing. And, the highlight of the morning breakfast is the terrific coffee and the homemade muffins. We had chocolate chip muffins a couple of mornings--decadent. The cranberry and blueberry are terrific also. Cooperstown is a gem of a village with the lovely surrounding hills of Central NY. While I think most folks who can afford it feel compelled to stay at that Otesaga, don't make that mistake....The Inn at Cooperstown will make you Cooperstown visit a special one!

Dear Verde-Trekkers,

Sounds like you found the favorite spot at the inn - the rockers on our beautful front porch. Many of our guests would agree! Thanks to you for your lovely review of our historic hotel. We truly appreciate your business and your very kind words.

Sincerely,

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at the Inn at Cooperstown. We loved it and would recommend it. Our room was very clean, nicely decorated, and the bed was very comfortable. It was quiet at night too. The staff was very welcoming and helpful about everything we asked them, which was a lot. There was a nice breakfast each morning, and it was nice to talk with other guests during this time. The location is perfect as you can walk to absolutely everything including the Hall of Fame, The Fenimore Museum, the Farm Museum, and the Lake.
Nice place to stay.

Room Tip: There is no elevator so if you have trouble with stairs talk with the owners first.

Dear Alison,

Thanks to you for writing such a nice review of The Inn at Cooperstown. As you have noted we have a "park and walk" location that is just perfect to enjoy all that Cooperstown has to offer. We appreciate your recognition of this and your time in writing a review. The inn does have some first floor rooms as well as a staff that is more than willing to help with bags upon check-in and check-out. Thanks again!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Inn at Cooperstown. The location is perfect if you are looking to walk over to main street, dinner, or the Baseball Hall of Fame. The breakfast was exactly what we wanted and had the personal touches I expect with this type of accommodation. The front porch and the accompanying rocking chairs proved to be a welcome retreat after a long day. However, the best part of our stay was the feeling of home that was given to us by the innkeepers and the wonderful staff. We will definitely be returning upon our next trip to Cooperstown.

This was our third stay at the inn. Invited friends to join us for
biking & visits to the Fenimore House. The Inn is beautifully maintained
with lovely, immaculate rooms. We love being able to walk to Sneider’s
Bakery & the rest of the village. Mark & Sherri are major biking enthusiast & share
their “Club House” behind the Inn with guests. It provides overnight bike
accommodations, a workshop & more. Sherri helped plan rides & even had P&J sandwiches wrapped to take in the back pockets of our jerseys.

One of our friends turned out to need a room with greater
accessibility. Sheri & staff arranged for a change of rooms, helped put
together their luggage & transferred it. Will always be grateful for their
sensitivity & kindness. It was inn keeping at its finest.

Yes, we’ve made our reservation for a fall foliage weekend.

On the good side: the staff at the Inn are excellent, compassionate and try to be helpful. The Inn itself is lovely.

Negatives:
(1) Take staff recommendations about restaurants with a large amount of skepticism. Information you receive may not be accurate.
(2) Do not under any circumstances rent Room 24. The bathroom is pathetic by B&B standards, and Internet reception in that room is highly unreliable.
(3) Breakfast leaves something to be desired. I was told that the Inn doesn't have a commercial kitchen license, and caters in most of what it serves. Even then, there is little effort to maintain any atmosphere. Have yogurt served in the grocery container just doesn't provide a homey feeling.

Thanks so very much for your compliments on our staff and our inn. We truly appreciate it.

Over the 10 years that we have owned our historic hotel, we have found food to be one of the most subjective areas for our guests. There is a dining guide at the hotel which is available to all guests. It contains menus from most every restaurant in the village of Cooperstown as well as some in the surrounding areas. Given the number of choices available, especially those that are seasonal, we have asked our staff to recommend just a handful of restaurants that we personally frequent on a regular basis because they are open year-round and offer consistency in quality of food and service. Our recommendations are just that and guests are welcome to choose any restaurant they feel would best suit their dining style. Our staff is happy to make dinner reservations for our guests at any restaurant that accepts them. And, we always enjoy hearing about our guest’s dining experiences. We have no ownership or specific ties to any restaurant in Cooperstown or the surrounding areas.

Upon reading your review we tested a laptop computer, an iPad, and an iPhone in Room 24 and were able to make a solid connection to the hotel’s wireless network from all three devices. The Inn at Cooperstown has two wireless routers each with a unique network id as well as several extenders throughout the hotel. Upon check-in our staff provides information to each guest regarding the network ids and connection. Since our hotel is located within the village in close proximity to other lodging properties as well homes, it is possible to that you were receiving enough signal from the network for The Cooper Inn (located across the street from us) to connect to their network but not hold that connection. We certainly wish you would have touched base with us during your stay as this was a situation that could have easily and quickly been corrected.

We are aware that this review was written by the same party of guests that wrote the TripAdvisor review entitled “Definitely Disappointing” dated May 27, 2013. So, in regards to the comments on the bathroom as well as breakfast we encourage you to read the response to that review. Please note that if you were looking for an ensuite bathroom with spa-like facilities, our luxury suite offers that with a large spa tub for two, a large separate tiled shower with rainfall style showerhead as well as heated tile floors and a beautiful double vanity sink.

Thanks again for staying at The Inn at Cooperstown and for taking the time to write not just one but two reviews.

Sincerely,
Sherrie and Marc

What a good time this trip was! My wife and I enjoyed a great weekend here for the Bed and Brew package. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The location was prime for exploring the town. The breakfast was quick and tasty. The rooms were comfortable and cozy. Overall it was a highly pleasurable stay. I would definitely recommend this B&B even if you don't do the Bed and Brew package...although I would strongly encourage doing that package!

My wife and I spent the weekend at this charming inn. The staff members are very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and comfortable. They also do special requests and were very helpful about it. They arranged to have chocolate covered strawberries in our room per our request. The strawberries were delicious! The Inns location is very convenient to the museum, local pubs and restaurants. There is parking for the quests which is very helpful due to the lack of parking around town. Already planning our next trip!
