“How a B & B should be run”

A charming B & B with gracious hosts and amazing breakfasts! It also has a convenient location to the Baseball Hall of Fame and to the shops and restaurants on the main street - all within walking distance. Once you get used to the breakfasts, you will not want to leave.

Room Tip: If you want a larger room, ask for one with a sitting area.

This was one of the nicest "hotel" experiences we have had. We have only stayed at B&Bs a few times but we wanted to be close to the Hall of Fame and the hotel I had stayed at previously was booked so I checked TripAdvisor for other options. From the second we drove up to the Barnwell Inn and Tara came to the car to greet us in her friendly and open manner to the outrageously excellent and huge breakfast to her helpful advice to our friendly discussions, you would have thought we were visiting family. (Full disclosure - her husband Mark does all the cooking and is just as nice as Tara.)

The accommodations were very nice standard B&B accommodations, but our room was special as we had the first floor with our own sitting room and porch. Tara tidies up each days and the room was immaculate. The inn is about 3-4 blocks from the Hall of Fame and an easy walk. Another 2 block walk and you're at the lake.

I have already recommended this inn to my friend who has been to Cooperstown several times and unhesitatingly give it a great recommendation. The only problem is there are only a few rooms so you have to make your reservations well in advance.

My wife and I stayed with Mark and Tara last summer and it was faaaantastic! Mark and Tara are so nice. It was colder than we expected in Cooperstown when we arrived so we asked Mark and Tara where we could buy sweatshirts...and they literally gave us the shirts off their backs! Ok, not literally, but they did lend us their sweatshirts and said we could borrow them for the whole trip.

Also, Mark is an amazing cook! Seriously the best breakfast you could ask for. My wife doesn't eat eggs (she really lost out on this one), but Tara was so gracious and had several types of yogurts and musli/granola ready for us (I did let her know in advance, which I recommend anyone with dietary restrictions do).

The house is really wonderful and is in a great location. Everything was very comfortable and clean. Really close to the hall of fame and the neighborhood is really lovely to walk around.

Mark and Tara are our second family in New York. We found them online all those years ago and have been coming back every October since!! House is like home to us, and the breakfast will incapacitate you! As long as we can drive we will be staying here with them! We cannot recommend them enough, they are two of our favorite people ever!

Room Tip: They only have 4 rooms plus the cottage out back during the summer, just get one!

My wife and I first booked for a weekend over the summer, during the busy season in Cooperstown. We had to cancel at the last minute but the owners Tara and Mark were very accommodating. They allowed us to switch our reservation to a later date easily. When we were able to visit again in September (after the tourist season ended), we had a great time. We consider ourselves "foodies" but the food that Mark and Tara made was better than any NYC brunch or breakfast that we had ever had. We also came during the weekend of the Pumpkinfest and Pumpkin Regatta, which were very quirky and fun. We were also really pleased with the variety of things to do in Cooperstown--it was the right balance of relaxing while still getting to be active and entertained.

We are seasoned travellers, either hotels, B&B's or cottage rentals, and this one surpasses everything. It is beyond expectations; large comfortable rooms, perfectly appointed to its mid-Victorian style. While normally we eat simple breakfasts, chef Mark's outstanding skills may make us change our minds. Fresh fruit, bacon or sausage, quiches, sweet puddings, made fresh daily, was a treat. The genuine warmth and hospitality of Tara and Mark was what one can only hope for in a B&B. Highly recommended.

This was the first time my husband and I stayed in a bed and breakfast and it was a wonderful experience. From my first contact with Tara when I was booking a surprise weekend for my husband to the warm hug good bye when our weekend ended everything was wonderful. Mark's breakfasts far exceeded our expectations and our accomodations were warm and welcoming. We stayed in the suite on the main floor which was lovely. It was like staying with good friends. We would definitely stay with Mark and Tara again if we should get back to Cooperstown.
