“Great Stay”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

We planned a trip to Cooperstown for a Hall of Fame weekend and found this gem of a hotel on TripAdvisor. The room was clean and comfortable, with mini fridge, microwave, and private. Also, it is pet friendly, and at a great location for the Hall and other local attractions. Eric is one of the owners and a great host, providing information on dining, local attractions, and a sample of his own art work (watercolors). We have already recommended the Gateway Inn to friends, and would stay here again.

As a frequent business traveller, this was a wonderful change of pace from the typical Marriott hotel rooms in which I normally stay. The atmosphere is laid back and quiet. The room was clean and well-maintained. I felt safe. When I stood outside one night, I could hear geese calling on the nearby river and cows lowing in a field further away. Very peaceful and relaxing. Oh, and the best part, they have rooms that are pet friendly! That is not easy to find in the Cooperstown area, so I was thrilled to discover they allowed pets. Thanks for a perfect stay. I can't wait to come back.

First off, an apology to the owners of this establishment, we stayed there back in September for a concert and we had an amazing experience, only to write a review in February. The room was great, the price was awesome, the itinerary was thorough; it was more than we could ask for.

But what really stood out was checking out with Eric (one of the owners) the following morning. We all spent over an hour in the office just talking. If you're in there, check out his watercolors. I would definitely stay there again, a lot of love and care goes into its operation.

Also, the view. Amazing.

we stayed here over Christmas and the family hosts were so thoughtful and welcoming, it truly felt like staying at someone's home instead of a hotel. We were able to cook all our meals in the kitchen and the two-bedroom suite was ample enough to accommodate our family of four. The suite was even decorated with a christmas tree and decorations - what a surprise!
Will definitely plan on staying here again next time we need a hotel in Cooperstown.

Simply put, Gateway Inn is awesome. Reasonably priced, clean, comfortable, convenient.

These people are doing this because they believe in hospitality and their profession, not for money and the bottom line.

Short anecdote: After enjoying fantastic accommodations during Thanksgiving weekend, my son left his winter coat. We made him call. Before he could arrange to pay for shipping, they just sent it to us. They’re the best, and we are going back soon.

We needed a pet friendly place to say, so we just picked it.
What a great find. We felt like we were in a big apartment in the woods.
We booked a suite with 2 bedrooms .
To our surprise there was a full kitchen and large living room area.

We had friends we were traveling with. They were staying at a very pricey place with horrible
food. They have 4 kids and needed a room for there last night in town.Eric and Lynn (the owners) placed them in a beautiful house. You had to see it to believe it. 4-5 bedrooms and baths, huge living room, big wood burning stove in the fireplace, pretty rugs...... I could go on and on.

It's a 8 minute drive from the center of town. If you want peace and quite lots of space and a great host this is the place for you.

We loved it.

What a pleasant place this was! It's an unusual property, more like a bed and breakfast (without the breakfast) than a hotel. Several units are spread across a few different buildings. We stayed in the Cooper Suite, a two-room suite with a small living room and a much bigger bedroom with two beds and an attached bathroom. Very quite, very private, wooded property with a nice view. We met only the husband of the couple who are the owners. He is an artist, and his work is all over the place. He was very friendly and very helpful. The price was very reasonable. The rural location is about 3 miles from the center of town. My wife thought the bathroom was a touch musty (it rained a lot the day we arrived), but I didn't notice anything. Overall, this is a great value. We both really liked it and would be glad to stay there again in the future.
