Penney Gentile makes staying at the wonderful Nelson Pines what everyone wants in a B&B: clean, friendly, welcoming, comfortable, AND
delicious. We could park our car once and walk to everything we wanted to do. She was always ready with suggestions, advice, and thoughtful ways to make our stay pure pleasure. She really MADE our trip to
Cooperstown special!

This is a lovely 3-room Victorian B&B surrounded by huge trees (strangely, spruces, not pines) on a quiet side street within easy walking distance of all the Cooperstown attractions. I had always pictured Cooperstown as a big town full of tour buses hauling Little Leaguers to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and the central business district definitely has plenty of traffic and bat stores, but it's actually a small town full of classic, beautifully maintained 19th-century New-England-style homes, of which this is one. (In fact, every inn and B&B we walked past within the village looked great from the outside.) We stayed in the attic room ($199, including breakfast for 4). It was simply furnished, but had plenty of space for a family of 4, along with a stack of board games and jigsaw puzzles. The owner's not French, but has tried to provide a friendly "country French" ambience. Breakfast on the porch on a sunny summer morning (see photo) was a pleasure. The steep narrow stairs to the 3d floor would make the top-floor room a problem for someone with mobility problems, but otherwise it's a very nice choice for a Cooperstown stay.
