This is a local institution, through a boatyard you go, and are able to be at lake level, to eat. A daily signboard changes with innovative, if slightly pricey, entrees. A variety of different tastes including vegetarian, seafood and thai gave many options on the day we dined. A cute gift shop at sam smiths boatyard gives an additional reason to head over from cooperstown, a short drive up the lake.

Not your usual food, and we almost drove past it, but this was a pleasant surprise. We ate lunch there 2 times in 3 days!

We recently stopped for lunch after some time in Cooperstown. As other reviews have pointed out, it is hard to locate among the large buildings. We arrived at 1:00 pm and the restaurant was very busy, but we were seated at a table along the water with no wait. The service was very good as things tended to be rushed with an approaching thunderstorm. The food was fairly good, beers fairly cheap and the views of the lake beautiful!!!!

We arrived without reservations on a Sunday evening following a late afternoon performance at Glimmerglass Opera. I was hoping for table near the water but then it started to rain. After waiting a bit, we decided to dine at the bar, a pleasant area with handpainted murals. We looked at the bar menu and then having eyed the nightly specials on the chalkboard, opted for the chicken pad thai and the baby back ribs. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the pleasant, attentive service from the bartender.

The Blue Mingo is hidden down a winding driveway, not visible from the road. To get to the restaurant, you have to walk through a little store, which has interesting stock. The restaurant is on the lake. Make a reservation in season if you want to sit on the back porch. The food is good, not great, and uses local ingredients when possible. The one negative is that there is no lighting in the parking lot, which is not paved.
